My '73 Commando roadster has the head steady mount on the frame blanked off with molded rubber covers. Is this standard? Does this year not have a head steady?
Hi Norton owners
It is now 18 months since I started the restoration on my 1960Dominator 99 and began using the message board, well now the job is complete.
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this issue, which is perplexing me!
I have a couple of JPS Nortons in the shed. Problem is they both have different fairings and different exhaust mounts.
Its time for the noise doctor to step in! I have had my Commando for about 5 months and within this period a clicking noise from the engine, around the cylinders, has grown slightly stronger and stronger.
Hello all,
I have just taken apart my rear plunger units on my 1949 ES2 and wish to check with anyone who knows which way the springs go in - heavy thicker ones at the top or bottom? cheers Glenn
Hi, Can anybody tell me what year and model Norton gearbox belong to.
I was given "1953 Norton ES2" in boxes engine was on the frame. I since have removed the engine. I am going to send in for the history thanks to this gr8 site.

Hi, I am a new new member and although I do not yet own a Norton I am hoping to change that in the near future. I already own a 1951 Royal Enfield Model G but am looking to get another classic bike.
My ,53 Dommie no.7 has been partly restored and a copper cylinder head gasket fitted at some time, probably fairly recently. However only 2 of the front head bolts are fitted and there is a hole for a third just behind them.
If any of you follow Accessnorton these may be boring repeats: Is there a standard screw pattern for front master cylinders to attach it to the switch cluster or is attachment of a "foreign" master cyl. a custom job?
As some of you may be aware Mrs Hemmings has recently been taken ill and will not be in 'The Shop' for a while. I do not know the nature of her illness, but suffice to say it involved an operation, so that's serious enough for me.
hi, i've just aqquired a 650ss cam for my 99 dominator, hoping this will give a little extra grunt. my question is should i change the radius followers to the flat type which would have been fitted with this cam.
Twice this year I have had the following problem which developed progressively:
1. RH Carb hard to tickle.
2. Throttle pick up erratic when cold.
3. Erratic idle on RH cylinder
I have a friend with a Mk III who is complaining that he's getting through too many expensive sprag clutches (I know, a common complaint!).
If I measure my valve clearances and they are the same hot as when set cold, why do they have to be so large? My Commando clearances are 0.006" and 0.008".
Is there any news on a badge for this years national rally ? At the time, email/contact details were taken with a promise that once numbers were known, badges would be organised & we would be contacted & told how to obtain them.
I'm in the process of trying to get my 38 ES2 going and the gearbox is my main concern at the moment. However a fellow enthusiast came by and commented on the hole in my inner chaincase cover where the shaft comes through to the clutch.
Three NOC Austria-Sulzbach guys try to get on their Nortons from Austria to the Manx GP 2011.
We are starting our journey on Thursday, 25th Aug. near Steyr (Upper Austria).
Next time I will read "News" first.
IE9 doesn't work with the message board!
