Hi all, i'm currently attempting to assemble my 1959 norton model 50 into it's cases. Quite frankly i'm ou of my comfort zone and petrified of causing more work for myself. I've got MP's CD and also the period maintenance manual. I've laid the alternator side case on a wooden frame (a stool!) and carefully inserted the crank into it from above. It'll go so far and then no more! I'm really wary of forcing it - ie hide mallet etc. I've seen on Mike's cd that the one he's demonstrating with is a simply drop/ twist and it's in?!
I've pulled the case off (it was tight) and had a look inside. What i can see is that the engineering firm that recently did some work for me (they loctited the bearings on the crank and case) appear to have fitted the spacer (with castelations in it) the opposite way (castelations down) to what mike suggests (castelations up).
My queries are:
1) how do i get the crank fitted into the case?
2) is the castelated spacer ok as is (ie the opposite way that Mike suggests)?
3) is 2 above causing the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
