Nice looking Electra on FB

Prices for classic bikes like ours has dropped significantly over the last few years, its become a buyers market.  Even so, that bike seems a little cheap.

Rather than being dodgy, perhaps the owner has priced it to sell?

No styling panels, that will, potentially, cost the new owner £250 - 350 more, if they can be found.

hadn't noticed the styling panels (or lack of). At least it'll be easy to get the carb off. I paid £1,000 more early this year for an Electra that was cosmetically much nicer but as described here at excruciating length has needed substantial work. But no gain without pain.

On the plus side I sold my ES2 for about £1500 - £2000 more than the current going rate about the same time.

Good spot John, and Ian is right, those styling panels are very rare and always ridiculously  expensive when they do appear on eBay etc.   It may well be priced to sell.   Given how rarely Electras come on the market, if I didn't already have one I would be on the phone to learn more and would probably go and have a look see and test drive!   As for cosmetics - it is easy and relatively cheap to make a mechanically rough bike look good.........but far better to buy a mechanically sound but scruffy bike, particularly when Lightweight spares like original pistons, clutch  and gearbox parts can be very difficult to source now.

... to do mechanical work rather than cosmetic stuff and things like chroming are becoming prohibitively expensive. And although internal work may have been done, to what standard? Fortunately my Electra has needed no paint or plating, and seems fundamentally sound in the engine and gearbox departments.

I consider myself fortunate that I didn't go for the very original red bike that I was looking at early last year as I don't think I could have lived with its "patina" and would have felt that to tidy it up may have been disrespectful.

I'm still waiting for my built up pawls. I hope my chap isn't suffering too much with the heat. Too hot for me in the garage the last couple of days.
