The bike when cold starts first or second kick  and runs ticks over lovely When hot is a mare to get going. if you take it for a ride 1/2 hour leave for 5 mins and try to start it it will not fire. Leave it for 1/2 hour or more it will start again  Any ideas appreciated Regards G

Commando Mk3 rear master cylinder rubber seal

Forums
The dust cover on the rear master cylinder keeps being damaged by the kickstart pinch bolt head. I've replaced this several times, but now wonder if there are any tips on how to prevent this. Perhaps an alternative dust cover has been found to work, or changing the pinch bolt from a hexagon head to a button head Allen bolt. Any ideas welcome.

Upright gearbox kick start shaft wanted model 18

Forums

BikeWould anyone have an old (upright gearbox kick start shaft) laying around, mine is pretty knackered. Reasonable price?  I have seen one for a 16H or a commando? on EBay from India...will this work on mine?   Thanks.

beginning to hate this bike! I'm having trouble finding what parts work/don't work and manuals that tell "Jack" about what is what...sorry for the rant just want to ride it.  shipping: Nebraska 68037.

Fuel Tap

Forums
I have managed to break the fuel tap on my 62 Navigator.  I have sheared the end that attaches the brass valve to the tap.  I will try and repair or make a new brass valve piece. Either way I need to align the brass valve slots with the tap grooves.  If anyone has a fuel tap apart could they please post a pic.

Will it work on a 99 ?

Forums
I have a  fully restored carb by Martyn Bratby ,beutifully machined . The issue is that its a 389  with a 1 1/8"  bore .  The standard carb is 1 1/16" .  Its not a simple change as other components will need a little work. The bike is fitted with  a filter system and Higher than std comp pistons from a 650. . What do you think?.

clicking and clacking

Forums
hello, on my 1955 single cyl es2 engine i have a double click sound on turning the engine over slowly. with the plug out . when i look at the push rod adjusters through the inspection cover the clicking noise seems to correspond with the exhaust push rod. roughly in the position indicated on the cam lobe in the photo. i have had all the head and piston plus liner and little end done some time ago.

Reversing speedo drive

Forums
Finally, I have my reversed speedo gearbox ready to fit.  This might (possibly) be of interest to someone.   A few small details include an internal thrust washer of phosphor bronze.  The new housing for the output shaft is also phosphor bronze, with an internal groove along its length to provide a path for grease lubricant.  The original had a steel dish pressed into the body, with a split pin in case it tried to escape when it was greased. Lots too many hours spent. I don't suppose anyone can confirm the thread for the grub screw in the gear?  I tried M3 and 6BA.  It might be 7BA (which is v

oil level

Forums
hello, don,t laugh . a while ago i was fed up with not knowing how much oil was left in my laydown gearbox. when i topped the oil to its level. i would put the bike on its side stand most of the oil would slowly pour out over time. so i thought about one of those clear pipe level gauges they fit on big  fuel tanks. so applied the same to the gearbox drain plug, using whats shown in the photo. it did work you could see an indication of the oil level. but i couldnt trust it. unless it was something better like a flexi hose onto some sort of brass level cup. for a quick oil check.  barry

Back to the past for the future.

Forums
For those who like to experiment ,I have run out of the 10/40 fully synth that i got for free a few years ago and have returned to the good old SAE 40  of yore for the 99.  I have noticed that the motor is much harder to kick over but is not so clattery when cold or very hot . It was built with racing clearances 30 years ago but is not noisy really . I expect to burn less oil and the plugs to stay a bit cleaner  (If i cant start it I will burn no oil at all but the plugs will get very messy!) .

Mirrors ?

Forums
I've recently taken on a 1958 Dominator 600. It replaced a Triumph Daytona 955i which was a bargain and worked brilliantly but was too fast for my needs (national speed limit broken at 40% performance) and the riding position made it uncomfortable over any distance. Apart from the great engine, suspension and brakes, it had very good mirrors.

Chain adjusters

Forums
Dear all, I would appreciate some guidance with this one. It's not very easy to see from the attached photo but I can't turn the welded adjuster nut because it fouls the big axle washer. The adjusters are after market stainless steel items. I would have thought that with everything slackened off I should be able to fine tune the chain tension in the normal straightforward way. Thanks   Roger

LED Headlamp

Forums
Hi 750 Mkv Interstate with LED Headlight, everything world fine as it should , bake lights indicators , main beam , dip beam warning lights however if the headlamp is on and I push the headlamp flash button the fuse blows this happens when the bike is running and when it it stopped engine not running has anyone experienced this , I have put the standard bulb back in and the fuse does not blow as LED consumes less power this is confusing me

Rear chain lower part

Forums
Can someone confirm for me that the angled end of the guard faces to the rear of the bike, if it does fit that way around. I assume the stub protruding from the swing arm, near the L/H pivot is the front mounting is one of the mounts?    How does the rear of the guard mount? Thanks.

tool box

Forums
hello,     i thought i would just bore you to death with a couple of photos i took when i repaired my model 7 tool box in the covid years. doing it stop me going around the bend. when i started it i thought of that famous saying, how hard can it be. on starting it i found that the base was rotten and the lower back piece plus the strengthening trim around the edge and lower lid . i straightened the hinge out  and fitted a stainless welding rod in place to act as the pivot. i did all the welding and then had to add filler it to finnish off.
