Piston slap?
My ES2 has loads of compression, goes really well and starts easily (when you know how). BUT, on tickover, just as the engine is about to stutter to a halt, there is a slapping noise, a bit like a loose chain from the motor.

My problem is that 2 studs are slightly too short for their nuts. These are the swinging arm spindle and the "rod for cross tube" fitted 4 1/2 ins above, adjacent to the ends of the rear engine plates.
where on earth can i purchase tappet ball ends and pads also push rod adjusterregardsjrw
Please, can anyone help me in finding a source for the hardened steel washer that fits into the rear of the sleeve gear to retain the roller bearings in all the above gearboxes. This was part number 3598 becoming A2/319 post war.
There must be enough people involved with classic ,vintage ,veteran and just older vehicles to Raise an E partiton to get the Ethanol problem discussed in the open.
I just received RH#325 and have noticed that it was mailed from Malmo, Sweden!!!
Is this the same for everyone or is it because I am in the US and there is some benefit to the Club doing this?
Just curious.
Has anyone fitted indicators using the headlamp fixing mounts?,if so what did you do with the threads as proper Nortons will have cycle threads?.
Does anyone know the PPG paint codes for Post Office Red and Dove Grey for a 1960 99?

Does anyone know what year Norton changed to the slot in the swinging arm brake anchor on the road bikes, rather than the torque arm as fitted to the Manx and earlier road bikes?
I have dropped my barrel off at Laystall Engineering today and when talking with Dave Kelly about having the bores Silicon Carbide impregnated he told me he has another set of Norton barrels that have been there for a few weeks.
Hello, I recently joined the NOC. I'm rebuilding an engine that I brought already dismantled with same NOS spares. 750 Engine number is 2116xx.
When I go to the NOC shop, Heavyweights, and conduct a search for a part the results are not limited to Heavyweights, that's inconvenient. Perhaps it should.

I have taken the barrel and head off of my '51 ES2 to investigate why it was burning so much oil and found that the piston rings had a gap of about 50 thou.
Can anyone email me pictures of the engine & gear box plates to allow me to identify what they look like if plates come up on ebay etc.
I recently bought my bike without engine or gearbox so i have no idea what they look like.
What is the correct type of petrol tank transfer for a 1954 Model 88?
The transfers I have are black with white highlighting.

When I built my 30's Inter engine a couple of years ago I used an ES2 piston, partly to soften the engine and make it more useable for everyday runs, and partly because it was what was readily available.

Hi All,

Any information on above reg special commando last heard of in bristol area would be appreciated
What is the correct Smith's Chronometric Speedometer numbers for a 1962 650SS with the speedo in the headlamp shell?
Hi, just wondered what people are running gearing-wise.
I have a 1972 750 Roadster, and I was thinking of 19 or 20 teeth (from the Tech Digest)- but maybe it will be undergeared with 19?
There is a 17 tooth engine sprocket on my '54 ES2 but I think it should be bigger. Does anybody know the correct size.
Regards
Bill
