Gearbox bearing removal

Given that I'm going to have to bite the bullet and give my Commando (Mk3) gearbox a FULL overhaul, has anyone any experience of the bearing puller sets (slide hammer type) as sold 'online'? I have no wish to remove the gearbox totallyif possible, and realise that judicious use of a blowlamp will be required, but will I be wasting money on 'cheap' tools?

Any other (constructive!) comments or tips gratefully received, I'm not a total novice in this area having renewed the sleevegear bushes previously, butfeel I can no longer ignore the playful tap of the kickstart rubber on my ankle!

If the kickstart is tapping you on the leg, stop riding the bike! The last one I saw that had that problem then threw the layshaft out of the gearbox. Very expensive.

Mk3's especially and late mk2a's have the dodgy portugese layshaft bearing that collapses when the cage fails.

If you use an expanding puller and judicious use of a blowlamp, the bearing will come out easily.
