I am about to fit the scrolled lowpresure rocker spindles in my Dommi head. A check of the Haynes workshop manual advises that the flats face towards the rocker inspection covers, however I checked Haycraft and he, word for word, reports that the flats face inwards (like the Norton Maintenance manual P106) I assume the Haynes manual is incorrect again? Any comments?

If you had a high pressure…
If you had a high pressure feed then you wouldn't use scrolled spindles. Flats to the rocker covers, to help the oil feed to the drillings in the rocker arms, feeding the ball ends and pushrod cups, on a low pressure system. Haynes correct.....
High pressure system, plain spindles, flats to the centre.

With the low pressure set-up it does not matter too much which way round the spindles are fitted. However, the convention is for plain spindles to have the flats facing the rocker covers and scrolled spindles to have their flats facing inwards toward the spark plugs.

One is correct for low oil pressure feed to the head, the other is correct for the high oil pressure feed.
