Has anybody had any problems fastening the three hole cover plate.
I am in the process of rebuilding an early 650SS engine and would appreciate some advice on how much metal I can lose from the rocker gear in order to gain a bit more ooomph.
Were the gearbox casings line reamed or machined on assembly to ensure that the mainshaft and layshaft bearings were true.

I'm just completing the rebuild of the top end of my 1960 99 (necessitated by the partial seizure of one piston) and as it is the first time I've ever ventured inside a Dommie engine I followed the excellent Mick Hemmings engine-rebuild video.
I have a 1954 ES2 with an engine number beginning with 00. I can't find any reference to such a number in the tables. I can only imagine this is a replacement crankcase following a rebuild at sometime in the distant past.

On my 1936 norton I have an issue with the hub/break assembly on the front and back. They are similar issues but caused by slightly different things.

My front wheel is not central between the fork legs. There is a quite considerable offset to the right and the mudguard mounting is aligned to suit this position.

Hi - According to the manual my Mk 2 Commando should do 71mph at 4000 rpm. It's going fine and as far as I'm aware, is a bog standard setup with a 21T sprocket on the gearbox.

The 99 is in good order generally but the big ends were worn when i last worked on it. It runs without any knocks but i don't thrash it.
I intend to strip the 88SS engine this winter. Mostly to find out why compression is low on one side only.But: it has been sleeved and I don't want to re-bore (should sleeves be over bored anyway?).
I shall be setting the ignition timing on my 1957 Domi 99 soon and was wondering if anybodywould recommendusing a different setting to that given in the manual (32deg BTDC).
