Thanks and Christmas greetings
Since returning to Nortons after a gap of over fifty years I have had cause to resort to these message boards for gaps in my memory and technical expertise.

I have just fitted the pistons to the conrods of my 650. The small ends needed heating for the gudgeon pin to fit throughhowever the pistons are loose ie slide in easily and rotate. All items are new and pistons standard bore size.
Could somebody with an un-messed with example tell me what the OE rear fixing was/is, please?
Can anyone please advise me of the timing of a 1930 Model 18.
I believe it to be 1/2" BTDC fully advanced but not 100% sure as I also read on the net it to be 3/8" BTDC fully advanced.
Thank you
Just a brief note to thank Mr Grimmett for his email received today. A most satisfactory conclusion! (Supercar fans!)
We have tolerated for too long some very poor behaviour on these message boards.
Can someone please tell me what plating to use on nuts and bolts and fittings on 50's Dominators?
Hi
I am fitting new 930 carbs to my 72 Interpol/interstate.
Sorry for my ignorance but could someone please let me know the size of the top nut on the early (47) Road Holders. I need to buy a spanner/socket. Sorry, i grew up in the metric age.
cheers
david
I have a 1950s bike (not a Norton) with an original number plate.
According to the number plate sites, it's worth around £2500, which is about 40% of the current value of the bike.
Can anyone suggest where I can get a copy of this manual? A high quality photocopy would be great, even a PDF would help. Thanks
Although the engine gasket set I have for my MK III Commando includes a cylinder base gasket, the workshop manual states there is no gasket used (just Loctite plastic gasket).
How many 961 owners are riding down next year ?
Two of us are starting off from South London, any others up for riding down with us.
Hi Everybody- I'm getting very confused about the front wheel on my bike.

Does anyone know where to look on the site for acknowledgement of a spares order or for checking its progress?

I ordered some mudguard stays on line at 4pm yesterday 14th from RGM and they arrived in Barnet at 10am this today!
Hi. I am trying to replace the seals on a Lockheed calliper fitted to the front original disc Mk111 Commando. It looks to be a Norvil Upgrade but I cannot be sure. The number printed/stamped is 10K9DT.
I know clutch drag has been discussed to death but I'm not convinced that my 55 ES2 has clutch drag. It is difficult to get into and out of 1st gear yet, on the centre stand, the rear wheel is not dragged round by a sticking clutch.
My headlight has two holes where small 'pips' should go. can someone please tell me what these 'pips' were for? (and if I can buy new ones!) Thanks Simon

I have recently purchased a 1935 ES2. Things started of fine, then after a few weeks a slight amount of smoke was noticed from the exhaust. A small amount of oil was thrown ack onto the oil tank from the inlet valve.
I'm new here and am going to recreate a 1952 Manx Norton based on the long stroke 500cc DOCH engine. I will not be racing it so competition wise is not important.
Hi, I have a nice oily rag es2 but cannot find out which oil pipe goes where!!! It has one block to the rear of the timing case with two pipes soldered in. Which is the feed and which the scavenge? Cannot figure it out for the life of me!
Why not rename the 'messages' section as 'forum' and make more of a song and dance about it on the site?
I'm currently working on a stalled project. My 1971 Fastback with standard head steady.
Any advice on the routing of the throttle cables, through the middle of the head steady, either side ??
Many thanks
Charles
My recently purchased m50 appears rather slow compared to the one I had in 1977.
I appreciate that time plays tricks with the mind plus I am porkier than I was then, however I am disappointed with the 46mph cruise.
Just wondering whether anyone has bought a pair of the new Indian inner and outer primary chaincases off the well known auction site.
If so what is the quality and fit like.
regards, Ian
