LED headlight bulb problem

Forums

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can help with a problem I have. I’m rebuilding a 750 Commando and have re-wired it to the 1972 diagram. It has the original Lucas handlebar switches which I have stripped and cleaned contacts and checked for correct switching with a meter.

I bought a high power dual polarity pre-focus LED headlight bulb from Paul Goff but when fitted only get main beam wether or not I’m on dip or main also the main beam warning light did not come on.

Stator failure on Dommi - is this common ?

Forums

Bike is 1959 Dommi 99. Asssuming my testing procedure is correct I have established that the reason my Alternator is no longer charging is due to my Stator being grounded. This is my second failure of a Goff supplied Lucas Stator. Is this just bad luck or is it something I am doing wrong during fitting ? Or is there another likely cause ?

weird earth problem 67 Atlas.

Forums

One of the last jobs on the Atlas after fitting some indicators and a modern handlebar switch was to reconnect the rear light .The first connection an earth from the loom to the numberplate  immediately caused the headlight and front pilot to go very dim. As none of the rear lights are connected this is a puzzle . I thought you guys might like a little brain exercise before I dive in.

Lucas headlamp emblem mounting ring

Forums

My 61 model 50 needs a new mount for the plastic Lucas emblem on top.  The club sent a replacement emblem but no ally ring to fit it with.  The original got mashed when removing for paint.

I had a bit of a hunt on the web but no luck.  If they are unobtainable has anyone made an alternative.  Mine was a double flanged top hat affair which looks like it was crimped into place.   Thanks

Jon

Capacitor fitment

Forums

Ignoramus seeks knowledge: the Commando workshop manual specifies that the 99.0737 capacitor must be fitted terminals downwards.

Why? (a.k.a. what happens if it is fitted with terminals in some other orientation?)

Led bulbs

Forums

Hi, has any one fitted led bulbs ?

if so are they any good and is it possible to get 6 volt for a positive Earth Norton ? I have a feeling that they will only be suitable for negative earth.

Also I am thinking of fitting indicators for Safety. Can any one recommend a set that will look good?

cheers.

Pete

Battery Blues

Forums

The Atlas has been in bits for a year  and the 3/4year old Yuasa Acid 12v battery  has not been looked after in the sons garage. I try to give it a charge when visiting but the Virus-----------!.  I think the ignition was left on a few weeks ago , and the battery  was totally dead. Putting it on the charger was a fruitless exercise, Zilch.  I looked on the internet for the best deal. While making up the mind (what mind?) I played with connecting the battery up with the collection of chargers I have accumulated .None would accept it.

RB107 control box

Forums

I have one of these which came in a box of bits and want to fit it to my 1952 ES2 (E3H dynamo, negative earth). The cut out/in works fine - checked off the bike with a variable voltage supply. However, the regulator side refuses to play ball and won't pull the contact in - I'm thinking that the shunt coil is open circuit.

Electronic Ignition?

Forums

I am considering an "electronic ignition", similar to the types I used in the late 1970s on my Bedford CA Dormobile and my Mark 10 Jaguar. They had a separate electronic box and worked OK, until the Bedford one filled with water!  I think that one of them (It WAS a long time ago!) used existing points and it claimed to reduce recession.

This type doesn't use points or condenser , which should be a good thing I reckon.
