Jubilee mudguards

Forums

Hi, sourcing some parts for a standard Jubilee (1965) is proving a bit difficult - namely front & rear mudguards. I know the deluxe versions are different (have a good condition deluxe front mudguard not wanted) but can anyone tell me if the standard versions are unique to the Jubilee/Navigator/Electra or are they fitted to other Nortons/AMC models as well. Even close will do as I can modify to suit! Thanks for any help/info

I think it will have to be Jubilee or other lightweight only as the Nav /electra used the same forks and mudguard as the Dommy.

Hello there,

I agree with Robert that the Standard Jubilee front mudguard is not the same as the Navigator or Electra but I think the rear mudguard is probably the same as the Navigator -same frame and back wheel.

If you're happy to settle for something close I would expect that some Francis Barnett (the 250 cc Cruiser ? ) or James models use the same front forks as a Jubilee so the mudguards are pretty similar. A nice pair of chrome mudguards looks good - looks like a baby Atlas.

Hi Robert & Patrick - thanks that will help, just bought a "James" front mudguard from eBay, let's see how it looks when I get it!

Chrome, now there's a nice thought, still trying to find out original paint/trim details though so will have to see what turns up

Hi Bruce,

Same problem as me, but a lovely old gentleman up the road put me straight as early jubilees were mixed matched with AMC. And a AMC front mudguard with a little modification to fixing bracket fits.

Thanks Kay, my problem is this seems to be one of the last Jubilees sold in UK so don't know whether changes were made to mudguard styling for standard jubilee. I've got the James one now and think I can modify to suit later bike - only time and other experts will tell!

now all I need is the rear one plus a seat plus a ????? Arghhhh the list goes on!!!

Hi Bruce,

It's interesting what you say about possible changes to your Jubilee mudguards,as I also have a '65 build (registered '67!) Jubilee, which I am currently restoring. This was (thankfully..) restored around 20 years ago,and has retained all its original tinware. The mudguards appear to be the same as the earlier standard model, and there's not a lot of difference between the pre '64 and later (forks and gearbox/crankcase being the main upgrades).

I have obtained a seat from Andrew at RK Leighton, and the fit and quality is superb (these are VERY tight fitting around the frame top tubes,so any poor quality would show here!).

If you require any further help with details or model parts origination, please let me know as I have re-discovered a lot of dormant knowledge regarding rebuilding a Jubilee (I rebuilt my first Jubilee in 1970 - though not to quite the same standard as my current one!)! Regards - Rob

Thanks Rob, I'll keep it in mind - mines a slow rebuild over next few years but some spares are few and far between although owners club parts have been a godsend so far!

The Owners Club parts service is very good especially for the supply of reproduction Lightweight parts. I got a few items recently - headstock cover and a chainguard for a Standard - and I was quite impressed with the quality and finish of the items and the prices seemed fair for the quality.

Club prices seem to be a bit mixed as for example a stainless steel brake rod seems very expensive. I made my own stainless brake rod by threading a length of stainless rod 1/4" cycle thread and screwing on a stainless clevis - total parts cost of £3. at auto-jumble prices - much cheaper than the NOCshop. I suppose it's all down to the buying cost from their supplier and the fact that I have a set of taps/dies.

Some Jubilee parts are now very hard to find, I have been looking for the past twelve months for a pair of side panels for a De Luxe without success. A trader had a rusty bent pair at a recent Stafford show but he asked a silly price - about the cost of a secondhand Ferrari.

Anyway it's all supposed to be for the fun of it.

Hi Bruce,

There are a couple of rear guards on Ebay Motors (the US site). One is listed incorrectly as an Atlas rear and the other just listed as an Electra rear. I inadvertently bought one of these listed as an Atlas rear from the US and found out when it arrived that it didn't fit a featherbed frame.

Search under Norton in motorcycle parts then use the search function for Norton rear fenders

Thanks Patrick - yes this is FUN! Found noc spares to be very good pity have to add vat onto listed prices as prefer to see total inclusive but hey ho I can understand why they do it. They've done an excellent job with pictures of each part as well!

Thanks Ian, yes seen and bid on the Electra one but strangely it's start price is $55 with a buy it now of $125 my bid substantially over the start bid but comes up as reserve not met so suspect reserve is the buy it now! Can't see the atlas one though as there's a number of them for Nortons and slimline/wide line frames

That US Ebay site is very interesting if you are looking for Electra bits but the prices asked are eye-watering serious; like 500 USD for a petrol tank and then there's carriage and import duties to pay. Even the prices at Stafford seem reasonable in comparision. I bought a decent sound petrol tank for a Navigator there last October for the enormous sum of £10.- no badges of course.
