Street Scrambler project

Forums

I have been slowly gathering bits in order to put together a lightweight single cylinder street scrambler that will loosely bear some resemblance to the look of the N15 / P11 twins.

So far the pile of parts consist of a 1958 Mod 50 frame & tank with a 19S 600 engine, AJS Stormer motocross forks and Stormer conical hubs. The plan is to ditch the existing tank and use a narrow AMC / P11 style competition fuel tank (Probably in cherry red), keep the frame in silver, with home made aluminium side panels to give the bike a narrow waist and with a high level exhaust. (The 1 3/4"exhaust in the photo was quickly cobbled together to get an idea of how it would look and the best routing).

I have drawn a blank on finding an aluminium chaincase that will fit the norton centres, so I intend to manufacture one myself in a similar style to the AMC P11 variety.

The present plan is to use flanged 18" rear and 19" front Morad rims laced to the Stormer hubs with some fairly meaty tyres, but I am not yet sure if a 4.00" tyre can be sqeezed into the existing swinging arm without a few mods.

So quite a few things still to sort out......

Neat project, I've been playing with fitting a Norton single into a BSA A-10 frame with Yamaha forks altered to fit the BSA steering head and utilize the friction type steering damper. I realized one fine day that I had all the bits on hand and began tinkering them together. Keep us posted please!

Was at the very excellent Telford offroad Show at the weekend, had a good look around for an AMC competition fuel tank, but failed to find one among the "Sea" of BSA tanks that were available. However, I managed to pick up a new Holtworks Ariel HT5 trials tank for an unmissable price. These tanks have a large cut out for rocker box clearance, so there is quite a bit of scope for adjustment.

With this set-up, the existing front tank mounts on the frame could possibly be retained and used for something like a small custom made toolbox....

Any thoughts on the fit?

Difficult to see without a seat, but I think I'd lift it up a bit?

Think your right Dan, it probably does need to go up a bit, I need to find a seat of some description so that I can get the blend between the tank / seat correct.
