Just stripped down the petrol tap on my wideline ES2. The corks are past saving, I thought I read somewhere that ethanol affects cork, is this correct? are there any cork replacements that are not affected?
I have recently acquired a 1947 ES2 where the previous owner has run the bike with the primary chaincase âdryâ and has used chain lube to overcome the problem of a leaking chaincase.

I just bought some new fangled electrics for my Electra restoration project. I have a power box, a coil and an electronic ignition. I also bought a mounting bracket.
Has anyone any experience of the replacement, pattern Norton parts being made in India and widely marketed through eBay?
Up to the 50's, most vehicles, 2 or 4 wheeled, used the negative earth electrical system. When exactly did Norton change to positive earth? If I remember rightly (well, it was a long time ago!) my '53 Dominator 88 was negative earth.
I am helping with the rebuild of a long silent Atlas we would like to paint the tank the red that was an option in 1963. From the literature it looks different from the later Commando red and lighter than the Electra dark red.

I have just got to the wiring up stage with my 850. The bike seems to have most features of a mk3 but was in fact a late-ish 74 vintage.
Can anyone recommend someone who can repair one of the magnetic type of speedometers? I have a wavering needle which I understand is a common problem.
I have just rebuilt a WD16H and I am having trouble starting it. The mag has been rebuilt and gives a very good spark, the timing has been set at 7/16ths BTDC fully advanced and rechecked so we know all is good in this department.
I have a '62 650SS in bits but mainly restored. I don't want to put back the engine and gearbox mounting bolts as they are pretty knackered and let the rest down. The rest of the other bolts etc. are also well worn.
Can anybody please advise me of the correct procedure as I am finding the haynes manual a little confusing on this particular job....Would I be correct in thinking that once I have drained the oil and replaced the screw plugs back in the bottom of

Juts a quick note to say I have just had 2 pairs of 16H brake shoes relined by Villiers Services - posted them off 1st class on 14th April, and they are back here today on 20th April. All clean with bonded linings and ready to fit.
Hi i have just had my crank returned from being reground, as now i can get on with the rebuild, i am unsure should the conrods fit on the crank a certain way, there are numbers stamped into the conrods but there are no obvious makings for the fron
I just took my fathers 71 750cc commando out today, and it it having problems shifting from 2-3 and 3-4th gear. It will shift ok from 2nd to 3rd if i apply a slight upward pressure on theshifterand quicklydisengagethe cluch and reengage it.
