Electra help

Forums

Hi ColinI have recently purchased a norton electra in need of a full restoration, I want to start by doing a loose fit and seeing what bits I need,I have a electra parts manual but this does not show the frame and other tinware. Do you know when I can obtain a tinware/frame diagram numbering and listing the parts , I know I am missing whatever fits in the frame to hold the tank bolt and the seat fittings but not sure what else is missing I am sure this will be the first of many contacts,

many thanks trevor

I'll take a look at the weekend. I am also undertaking a complete restoration of an Electra. The tank is held on by a spigot on the front frame member which is covered by a rubber sleeve. At the back of the tank there is an anchor hole in a cross member of the frame tapped 1/4 BSW. A shoulder bolt and two rubber washers, one flat one and one with a top hat shape to locate the large hole in the tab on the back of the tank.

Trevor,

I'm much more advanced in an Electra restoration and found the Electra parts list available from Bruce-Main Smith a great help. This lists all parts, grouped by subassembly. Unfortunately, it's not an illustrated parts list.

Also available is a workshop manual for Norton Twins. Issued by Norton. This covers lightweights and heavyweights up to '68 ish. A very good exploded view of the lightweight frame included. Coupled with the parts list this should be a great help. The frame illustrated is from a de-luxe version, but by the end of your restoration you will be an expert in the different lightweights.

I have a cache of sparesto quarry from. Did I see your project on ebay relatively recently?

Your seatlocates on two horizontal hooks on the top of the frame halves and also on the shock absorber top mount bolts.

Hi peter

Yes this is one of the two recently on ebay I have been trying to locate one for about 2years as I wanted a classic with an electric start to go with my triumph t90. I have obtained and original copy of the norton workshop manual where it shows on fig54 a frame so its a case of going through and trying to identify the missing bits I also now have a reprint of a electra manual together with a parts list, I know I am missing the bracket which holds the rear of the fuel tank in place together with the second battery housing which fits between the oil tank and tool box, with regard to the seat I have the two hooks on the frame but the two eyes on thefront of the seat base are approx 1 inch closer together and 1/2 inch diameterI assume there is some fixing that links the two or I may have the wrong seat the rear of the seat fits onto the shocker mount bolts, other than the club and norvill where is the best place for electra spares I will try and post some pic's or let me have your email address and I will send some

thanks trevor
