New rings/piston for a 1936 Model 16H

Forums

Hi all,

I'm having my 1936 16H (not WD) renovated and I need a new set of rings. I'm told that the piston, (79mm +0.020 dia), is ok, but have been advised that it may be difficult to get the exact rings required here, so may be better to get them with a new piston too?

The chap who isworking on the bike is saying that the data he has for this model shows the ring widths (3No.) as 1.588, 1.588 & 3.175mm respectively, with a radial dimension of 2.870, 2.870 & 2.769.

My rings are coming in at 1.5, 1.5, 3.15 width and a radial dimension of 3.12, 2.95, & 2.90mm respectively.

Now what are my options here? Can I just get the rings or would it be better to buy them with the piston included? Are the above thicknesses accurate on his data sheet to start with, andwhat size gap should be present when fitting the new rings?

Finally I also need at best, a full engine gasket set, (hopefully in copper), or at the very least a top end set, plus another spark plus (the existing on is a NGK AP6FS).

Any assistance would be most welcome.

Many thanks,

Laurence (Bedfordshire)
