After a week of trying to get my 56 Dommie started again, after many, many years, my brain has become scrambled with respect to ignition timing.

I just bought a new project which I'm looking forward to.
It's a '74 ex Police Interpole 850 Commando, that has been used as an Interstate.
According to my handbook, Norton says paper gasket between rocker & distance piece but NO gasket between head & distance piece. Any reason why that is?

I am trying to source a new primary chain case aluminium screw in oil filler plug for my navigator which has got the usual damage to the tightening slot. No joy in the NOC shop, Norvil catalogue or ebay - does anyone know of a supplier?
I've noticed a small amount of white smoke when the throttle is blipped and - I'm told - when running normally. I fellow NOC member suggested water in the fuel tank.

On 1959 Model 50 - just had the Oil Pump refurbished by RGM Norton. However, on turning the drive cog with by hand it seems quite stiff ! I was expecting it to turn over easily and freely. Is something wrong, or is this normal ?
I am not sure where to put this request. Last time I managed to get to a TT was in 2007 and the fellow who housed us at the time has decided not to do so any longer.
