Electra kick start lever

Will any other Norton kick start lever fit the Electra?

Hi Jack, my experience with Jubilees and Navigators is although you can find other kickstarts which fit the shaft they always end up fouling the exhaust or else where. You can heat and bend them to fit but that ruins the chrome and probably ends up more expensive than buying the correct one. If it helps the NOC shop advertises a kickstart for all three lightweights but it's not cheap and I cant comment on its fit or quality although they do their best to give value for money!

Thanks Nick. I had seen that one too. And I've found others with a shape that would probably work but they were either coarse splined or the shaft opening was much too big. I'll just keep looking.

Hello Jack,

NOC have been out of stock for at least two years. I finally managed to find an OK one on ebay but rare as hens teeth and not perfect by any means. Suggestion put to me was get good spline from FB or Matchless (can't remember which models) and use it to replace the the old one - weld just the collar. A pain as alignment, strength, re-chroming are all considerations there. Good luck and when you see one, take it. Price is becoming a secondary issue. Supply is much more the issue.

Good luck

Andrew

The gear lever from both Lightweight and Heavyweight twins have the same spline as the lightweight kickstart so an old heavyweight gearlever is another source of materials for cobbling up your own kickstart. If you have access to an acetylene welder heating and reshaping a kickstart is "fairly" simple; otherwise it is a problem. Don't cut up a lightweight gear lever unnecessarily as these are also very hard to obtain ; they have a different bend to the heavyweight one; i.e the heavyweight one which are available new do not fit the lightweight as it hits the timing cover.
