In the 1950s Lucas changed from Negative Earth to Positive Earth with regard to motorcycle electrics WHY??

There is going to be lots of guesses to this-I can guess better than most, but I want the real answer if anyone might know??

Gear box oil seals

I've given up trying to get the cover oil tight, the square seals don’t work for me at previous owners have butched the seating groove, so this was my answer, I’ll let you know how it holds up!

1935 Es2 ignition timing.

I have recently replaced my timing chain, so obviously had to retime the ignition. I set it at 3/4 btdc as stated in the Frank's Manuel. It starts easily, although now it has to be a lot more retarded than before or I get kick-back.

I've bought a 1974 850 Mk2A a couple of weeks ago and have been steadily working my way through the (thankfully minor so far) list of snags.

16h top nut spanner

hi i seem to have 2 different cranked top nut spanners, one fits my bike 7/16w, the other has raised letters (gearbox top nut) & is 9 1/16w  , can anyone explain are they both norton ive sent an atatchment, thanks pete

Barrel height

Can anybody please confirm the original height of a 1956 Dominator 99 cylinder barrel ? My barrel has had the spigots removed and the  machined top boss height is minimal and washes out to part of the right hand side top fin.

Hi,

I am going to replace the rear shocks on my 850 MK1 Commando, rather as a matter of course, not because I know the old ones are definitely unserviceable.

7/8" fulcrum

Does anyone know who might sell a 7/8" fulcrum clutch lever for a 7/8th handle bar?

My Electra currently has a 1 1/8" fulcrum and is a bit tough to handle for any length of time.

Now 3 weeks into my Norton Commando ownership i have had my first Slight disaster (if you don't count the kickstart crippling me for a few days as disater!).
