Starts well from cold.....
My single carb 650SS starts well enough from cold, and performs very well. I had the mag rebuilt in 2012.

I am currently using one of the NOC shop pattern Wipac 6 1/2" headlight reflectors and lens on the Navigator which while cheap and cheerful does not provide a good, focused headlight pattern, even with a high wattage conventional pre-focus bulb, t
I have a 1974 Commando do I need to use a capacitor at all? seems pointless if you have to use a battery to start the bike.
The Norton emblems on my Navigator petrol tank are in poor condition and need re-chroming but I am told they are made of Zamak and you can not strip the chrome with acid as it will damage the base metal.
Hi all,
Can someone remind me please how to get the bottom retaining bolt tight (oil damper tube bolt) in the fork slider?
Just clocked-up 500miles on my rebuilt Mercury. I have been allowing the revs to build slowly over this period and yesterday let it go to just shy of 5,000 rpm. Wow! Really starts to fly over about 4,000rpm.
I’ve read in a workshop manual (Haynes, Bacon or Norton - can’t remember which) that the intermediate pinion spindle should be a tight fit into its bore in the timing side crankcase and that heat is needed to remove it.
Hi recently experienced spark plug failure one cylinder on Navigator fitted with electronic ignition .Just got to thinking what could be the cause has anyone any views or experience that may link electronic ignition to such failure ?Thanks Hughi
Getting to the bottom of my basket of bits supposedly being components from a 1956 Dommie 99 when I came across these pictured items that I do not recognise. Can anybody help with identification?
Regards. Ron T.
Firstly, many thanks to all who gave me advice on cleaning my oil tank out.
The book enclosed with this month's Roadholder. Looks fascinating.....
When will the Factory Records Services be available again, as it still states not available until after the AGM?
The engine is now apart (at last) and it looks like it suffered some fairly catastrophic events in its previous life. The camshaft has some pitting on the faces of the lobes (please see photos attached).
Hi all, this may be a dumb question but I've just bought a Commando 961 Street and was told that there is a trickle charger plug built in to the harness. Does anyone know where this is as I can't find it?
Has any one seen this ? I am intrigued - I would ask the seller but he has quite clearly stated that he only wants to answer questions from genuine buyers , which I am not .
Hi all, first post as I only recently acquired my Mk 3 850. It has a few issues so getting to these one at a time, a couple of questions if I may?
I’m trying to remove the half time pinion from the timing side of my Domi 99 but it’s so tight on the crankshaft nose that I can’t slide it off.
My 1955 Model 88 main lighting switch gives me parking + instrument light, and headlamp + instrument + tail lamp. Is this correct wiring? If not, how should I rewire the lighting switch?

Sorry all, but due to circumstances beyond my control, the May 2019 Roadholder dispatch from the printers has been delayed such that you may not receive your copies until next week (w/c 6th May).
Does anyone know how many different covers there are? I have a late type with the three bolt mounting fitted to my ES2, I wanted to swap it with an original type so I can fit a mag dynamo,.
Hi I've just started working on the forks of my 1950 Big 4 restoration project and hit a possible big problem. The fork slider are excessively worn around the spindle holes without I think enough metal remaining to ream and sleeve.
I'm currently undertaking Norton's version of The Labours of Hercules, ie I'm trying valiantly to eradicate the many and varied oil seepages that plague the bike.
Hi
Could anyone tell me what the diameter and thread form are of the three long studs that screw into the underside of a Domi 99 cylinder head please?
Hi All,
Following on from some comments made at the AGM, I am thinking of making some 'absolute basics' video's. These would not be professionally done, just a hand held camera or phone. Minimal editing and released via youtube.
Sorry - should have posted in Nortons General. Have a look there.
I see the “racer” is for sale again in this months Classic Motorcycle!
Due to a gudgeon pin circlip breaking up causing the gudgeon pin to grind a groove in the barrel, which in turn caused metal filings to drop into the crankcase and circulate the engine, I am rebuilding my Dommi.
Can anybody tell me the correct length of the rear shocks for my '61 ES2 rebuild?
If so, please specify what the dimension is - shock extended, hole center to hole center, etc.
Those that came off certainly aren't original.
