1930 Barrel oilway

Forums

Good morning,

Could anyone please help with some information regarding a mystery oilway in the barrel of my 1930 Norton?

There is a drilling which goes from the bore approx. 1 ½” from the bottom and comes out on the base flange. Where the opening is on the base flange there is nothing for it to line up with?? It is on the rear timing side,  ¾” from the centre line of the conrod and in line with the rear of the barrel studs.

If I fit the barrel it will block the oilway but I can’t see any other option. The crankcases and barrel both have the same engine number stamped on the drive side. Any suggestions please ??

Cheers   Ian

You don't say which model 1930 Norton you have.  The ohc models have an oil-way which is fed into a groove in the base flange of the cylinder.  Drillings from this groove feed the oil into the cylinder bore.  The upper rear crank case bolt has an end drilling with adjuster bolt to set the rate of oil feed.

Sorry I missed that in the original message.

It's a model 20,  basically a model 18 with a twin port head.

Cheers Ian
