'72 Commando 750 (Combat)
I only get a very weak spark with a Pazon EI (you need magnifying glasses to see it!). When the bike is running, it runs very well (although I'm only in a breaking in period and haven't exceeded 3800 rpm).
I picked up the '72 Commando that I had won at the HJ Pugh auction on Friday. The handwritten notes in the file said that the engine. was rebuilt by Walcott Engineering in 2020 and that it had 15 miles of running in.
BBC1 today 25/5/25: someone turned up with 2 Featherbed Manx frames. One still in Rex McCandless's assembly jig. Plus steel templates to bend the tubes to correct curvature. Antiques Road Show, final item...see BBC iPlayer
Hi I'm upgrading my bike to 12v and I'm unsure of which replacement regulator I should buy from the NOC shop? There are a few 12v variations there so any assistance would be appreciated please.
For about a week, I have found that I have to log in every day. Previously, I could go for months staying logged in. I have not changed anything at my end.
Hi - I'm just starting to renovate a 1961 Navigator. I'm getting conflicting information about it being a wet or dry clutch. Would be grateful if someone could put me straight. Thanks
I'm sure much has been written about this topic down the years - but I'd like to revive it after a recent comment on a Commando thread.
Have quite a lot of end float on dolls head gearbox.
Can anyone one tell me please how much should it have.
I want to rebuild my wheels with stainless spokes and rims, but I am getting a lot of conflicting information when I research spoke patterns, offset, gauge, length and bend.
A note of caution.....
Up to now, fitting Electronic Ignition was relatively simple.
1) Upgrade your system to 12volts. (You kept your alternator & 6v coils - if working).
2) Changed battery, bulbs & horn.
I know its a bit of a thankless task sometimes monitoring the FB page but a few members are taking the micky by advertising Cars, Beds and other non Norton related items.
Hello all,
For some time I have been mulling over the idea to get a Commander. Ex-police appeals for the combined single seat/pannier arrangement.
1955 Model 30 International Went to tighten the drive chain and soon realized I wasn't so confident that I knew what I was doing. Nut loosened easily on primary side but fixed head spindle on timing side was very tight ( didn't try forcing it).
Just been looking at the online Road holder index, tried to use the column headers to sort the data, its not working...
Good afternoon all
This project is coming along well apart from, I've lost the ability to select neurtral!
Reassembling my first Manx engine, who could tell me in which way does the engine run.
Hi to all,
Putting valves springs back on, I'm wondering if I'm going to need a third or more hand?
Should I put both springs in the same time? Or will it be OK one by one?
Hi Everyone,
I joined the club last month and finally got my hands on a Mk.3 yesterday, couldn't be happier!
I'm surprised that there has been no mention of Saturdays ANIL open day. What a marvellous event, hugely popular. Perfect weather, loads of bike, not just Nortons. ANIL staff did a good job with the parking considering how many bikes turned up
Hi all,
did the dgr ride today and she was running on and off poorly. Throttle felt notchy too.
I'd switched the coils yesterday to see if any change in sooty plugs after trying pilot adjustment and adjusting tappets.
I have just had the tacho drive in pieces to replace the oil seal and noticed a curious arrangement of washers on the little widget ( I've since seen it referred to as a Spade?) that transfers the drive from the engine to the tacho drive cable.
Hi, new to the group just brought a 1933 SV would like some info on bike please.
Hi all, this is my first post and my first Norton. The model is a 1975 mk 3 electric start. As far as I can tell it is 99% original and has 6000 miles on the clock from new which I believe is genuine.
Hi All.
Just stripped the head down on my commando and found the valve guides badly worn.
Can anyone recommend someone in the Northwest near wigan, who reconditions and fits new valve guides to nortons.
Graham
I have some handlebars on my Mk2 850 Commando that have makers numbers stamped on them. I'm trying to find another set of bars the same but no amount of googling is turning anything up. Can anybody tell me who might have made these?
I have an 850 Mk 2A, first registered on 1/3/74. I am addressing the tacho drive that has just started leaking after some years trouble free running.
I set out today to buy an Avon Road Rider tyre (110/90-18) to replace the increasingly worn one on the rear of the Commando. Not so easy.
My Commando 750 oil pressure relief valve leaks. It looks to be getting past the cap threads. I annealed some new thicker copper washers thinking the cap might be topping out on the valves thread and not compressing the thinner standard washer.
Has something changed regarding use of NOC Shop? I am logged in to the site, go to order some parts and find I have to register; using my site login credentials does not work.
