ES2 rear brake drum studs
Hi all - on retightening the three wheel sleeve nuts (they're always coming loose!) I found one of them stiff on the stud but the stud looses in the drum.

Hi,
Opinions please. The rear sprocket on my MkIII is well past due for replacement. The one from Andover Norton is about £150 by the time it arrives on my doorstep.
The one from Wassell via the VMCC is less than £50.00
The Oil Non Return Valve on my 1959 Model 50 got stuck closed and caused the bike to seize up. The engine freed up on cooling down and appears to have survived serious damage.
Hello,
I am restoring my 1959 Dommi 88 and there is a part in the distributor that I need, its between the rotor arm and capacitator.
I hope the upload of the pic works.
hello , would be grateful for some guidance . I have just got my 1972 750 commando on the road after a long lay off ( 10 years ) . All has gone well on short runs except having problems setting clutch to get a neutral easily .
Dear Members,
I have a 1960 ES2 with coil ignition. A recent article in Classic Bike Guide by Mike Pemberton recommends having a spare condenser. I have ordered one from the club as a precaution.
Today I've been helping my brother-in-law with his 1936 CS1 which had suddenly become worryingly noisy at the top end. We quickly worked out that the inlet valve was shutting with a bang, definitely not following a cam profile.
hello . i thought i read somewhere that 600 barrels were going to be made. did i miss something. or did i read it somewhere else ?
I have just stripped the bike down for restoration and I noted that the cradle face which abuts the spindle and seal is pitted and not a smooth machined finish to the full extent of the bush and seal.
NNeed help and advice again, I'm afraid. This time, after removing clutch, I have found that the bolts holding the backplate onto the clutch centre are picking up on the rear primary chain case. This has worn them down a small amount .
Hi all - Finally get back to my 72ish Combat Roadster - soon to begin engine strip . Have Club produced Mick Hemmings DVD .
Hi all. Having to take engine sprocket off my 1935 es2 ( primary side). I'm not sure if its right or left hand thread. Bloody tight so didn't want to struggle trying to undo it wrong way. Many thanks.Nick.
Hi there following the much welcomed advice regarding the cylinder to crankcase studs, now replaced with the correct ones, I have another issue someone out there may be able to help me with.
My roadster is running well, starts on first kick but on road test is wandering to left side of the road.
Could anyone help me please. I need the band that goes round the clutch to stop oil getting onto the plates. If you can't help please could you give me some idea where I could get one. I will pay what ever you feel fair. Many thanks.
Does anyone know of a list of finishes on a Commando? Mine is a 74 and Iâm trying to work out what some of the finishes are as part of the rebuild. For example the fork yolks painted or plated?
HI, I have just bought a set and a half engine plates from the States (ouch). I have also just drawn up on the drawing board all the frame mounting points and engine plate outlines.
Reluctantly I am considering changing the TT carb for a modern carb on my International 30 in order to give easier starting for my old legs, and of course a tickover would be a bonus.
Sitting here watching last year's classic TT because we don't get coverage of the regular TT practice week here.
I was reading another post and am now motivated to jot down some thoughts on dealing with mechanics.I currently own six antique motorcycles, am a father, and work a full-time job.
Hi
I have to fit the advance/retard unit back onto the machine but it is on a tapered shaft and has no spline and I can find no alignment markings to determine its position.
The Prince of darkness cheapo Lucas alternator has died, and its only 58years old. Not bad at all.
I have got Ross Noble, the comedian,850 Commando Interstate with electric start. I am just looking to see if anyone has any history on this bike.
From the paperwork I think it was once owned by Mr RS Turner from South Gloucester.
Will someone please be kind enough to explain to me exactly what is meant by "dollshead", "laydown" , "upright" gearboxes?
Which bikes were they fitted to"
hello is it not time for a real big up date of this website, has its getting as out dated as an norton 16H were is the spellchecker for instansts ???????????
I fitted a £20 Chinese one to my ES2. It takes its pulses from a cable wrapped round the HT lead. I've set it correctly (1 spark / 2 strokes) but it is a bit erratic especially on acceleration where it consistently locks out at 6000rpm (hahaha).
Hi, I am in the process of strip down of a Commando 850 2a for full refurb and rebuild. So many of the nuts, bolts etc. are going to need replacing as they are rusty or tarnished.
Hi all. This is in regardto the clutch on my 1935 Es2. First question, should it have 5 plain plates and 5 friction. Two of the friction plates don't have inserts, they have, I think they're called bonded plates. Is this correct?
Has anyone replaced there swinging arm bush, from what iv'e read on other models it can be at right sod.
Could anybody help me, I'm building the engine of my 1950 big 4 and have hit a problem.
