FINISHES ON COMMANDO

Forums

Does anyone know of a list of finishes on a Commando? Mine is a 74 and Iâm trying to work out what some of the finishes are as part of the rebuild. For example the fork yolks painted or plated? And the speedo and rev counter cases, anodised or painted?

Probably too big a wish but if somebody has published listing it would be great to know!

HI, My fork yokes are Nickel Plated, I have another which looks like Cadmium Plate. Aluminium housings are best Hard Anodised, but most people seem to use Silver Paint. I used to work in Quality, and got all my finishes done properly in the trade. It is virtually impossible to get proper plating done at affordable prices these days due to the "Save the Planet" brigades lunacy. Try and get your Camshaft "Pack Hardened" (Cyanide) these days. Try Poeton Plating in Gloucester, I used to deal with them a lot.

Thanks Paul - good advice!

The factory finish was a grey colour matched to the front mudguard stays, I get them powder coated as silver but you could get them done in grey.

My late 73 Mk1A 850 has grey painted fork yokes and black painted instrument cases - original from factory. Same also on my 76 Mk 3.The first Commando I had way backin the daywas a69 Fastbackwhich had anodized instrument cases although forget how the yokes were finished.
