Hi all, very quick but possibly daft question? If I disconnected the warning light assimilator, would this improve the DC volts for charging the battery?
No. The warning light…

Possibly, if you disconnect…
Possibly, if you disconnect the assimilator and replace it with a Battery status monitor and use a Tri Spark MOSFET rectifier regulator you should get 14.3V at tickover. This allows all the alternator output to be used by the rectifier regulator.

Not so daft
This is not such a daft question. IF the original 'tin box' assimilator goes faulty it can/does actually stop the bikes charging. (so the device that is there to show non charging can cause the non charging!!) So if by some chance the assimilator is 'part' faulty then it could reduce the charging on the bike.
BUT as this is an original MKIII then I suggest you read the words on my web site re MKIII. In actual fact there is a small 'design' fault in the MKIII system, see my web site and/or get in touch.

No. The warning light assimilator on the Mk3 just looks at the alternators output, before the zener diodes chop the voltage down to battery charging level.
