Hi all - Finally get back to my 72ish Combat Roadster - soon to begin engine strip . Have Club produced Mick Hemmings DVD . I am contemplating Bronze Exhaust Ring Nuts - anyone care to weigh in on pros /cons of the choice between bronze and standard iron ? I would assume - perhaps incorrectly-that the iron dissipates heat better. I am curious about which may be better in terms of resistance to loosening . I have previously met with moderate success by allowing cylinder head temperature to get very warm by running and then doing final tightening with C spanner befor bending tabs of locking ring over - I have also resorted to boring a hole in the appropriate ring fin and safety wiring it back to the exhaust rocker cover stud.
In the interests of full disclosure I should state that I simply like the look of the bronze units .
Thanks in advance for any and all input -
Cheers and be safe in the upcoming riding season- Richard

I too have the bronze ones…
I too have the bronze ones - because I liked the look.
If buying from RGM then it's worth buying their special tool as breaking the fins when tightening with the standard C-spanner is a distinct probability - don't ask me how I know! JB Weld is marvellous stuff.
I usually tighten them after a couple of runs and they do not work loose. No locking rings or wiring-up.

Heat dissipation is roughl…
Heat dissipation is roughly the same for bronze and steel.

I got a pair of CNC stainless ones from P Seager Engineering 01473 232908 complete with CNC spanner. Can't fault them.

I can't say anything abou…
I can't say anything about materials, but the standard ones are fine -- without locking tabs (completely useless, in my experience) or lock wire -- provided that they are finally tightened when the motor is good and hot.
The "correct" tool is an 18" Stillson ...

I have gone 100% bronze, the thermal expansion is half way between steel and aluminium so the loosening issue in reduced plus they do not rust.
