Just like to say thanks to Roland, Mark and Christine (British Only, Pettenbach) and the good people of Austria in helping to and returning my passport and documents, which I lost somewhere between Laussa and Passau enroute from the Austrian rally
Haynes "Owners Workshop Manual" (1974 ed), and Roy Bacon's "Norton Twin Restoration" (1987 ed) both say that 97 links are required with the standard 19 tooth rear sprocket on a 650cc Dominator or Mercury. How is this done?
Can one of you clever people out there tell me the width, pitch and number of links there should be on an Atlas timing chain?
Did the same chain fit any of the earlier Dominators?
Thanks.
Giday, my 650ss has pushed the end plug out of the tacho box twice in about 1500 miles, is this something that happens or do I have a cam end float problem or similar ? Thank,Dave from Bathurst

I am a proud owner of Commando 961 since 11. 2012. With only 1700 miles on the clock the engine is suffering with high oil consumption.(oil used: MOTUL 3000 20w50, API SG, meeting JASO T 903).
May I thank the NOC for their exellent and prompt service. I ordered some clutch plates for my Mercury on the 7th August and a shirt with the NOC logo for myself. They all arrived today, the 10th August.

Hello everyone,
A friend owns this part and asks, "what is it"? He was told it was for a Norton Manx, or International, any thoughts?
Well in 2010 when our branch did the tour of the Norton workshops at donington park there at the back was a prototype domiracer on the bench .at the time no one took any notice of it .
Hi folks, iv got my 1950 es2 started. but it is spitting back badlythrough carb on kickstart and running, good spark from magneto, the bike had stood for 27 years, iv cleaned the carb etc any ideas thanks maurice
Any member lucky enough to attend the National Rally and take the boat trip to the Farne Islands would do well to check over their riding gear. The salt water has started to corrode my press studs and zips.
My machine is equipped with a reg/rec and an early electronic ignition unit which still employs a mechanical advance/retard unit.
I have a 1974850 mk1, currently painted black ,rubbing down the petrol tank, for a re paint, I found under the black paint its blue, could this be its colour when newif so does any one know the name of this blue?.
Hi Guys, I have started to fit my new Dave Taylor head steady, is the post that the rose joint fits on to really close to the frame clamp? It's about 1/4" gap.
Just got back from Northumbria after having a brilliant weekend in Morpeth. My back, bum & wrists are hurting a bit but thats old age for you & riding Nortons.
Frame was damaged, not too badly but I woudl have hated not to find it.
You want to watch out for that one.
Tighten up your side stand mounting bolt and put on a new rubber thingy.
Regards
Jack
Hi I am just putting my clutch together The layshafrt and Clutch centre turn until I put on the diaphram and circlip. Then nothing moves. I have not assembled the Gear box but just have the Layshaft fitted.
I recently took the swinging arm off to replace all the bushes, celvis pins, wicks and what have you only to find that one of the exhaust bracket screws had in fact "sawn" through the swinging arm tubing to a depth of about 4 or 5 mm.
Today I got home and my new pipe was here from Armours. I wrote to them some time ago and was told they do a special pipe for a 38 ES2.
Does anyone know what the thickness of the plates or recommend a place to send them to Thanks Keith
I am (finally) managing to put my Commando back together, it's fair to say it has fought me all the way.
Not its' fault really but the monkeys who have worked on it I suspect.
The EU are at it again with even more daft legislation and rules to try and get us bikers off the road, now there trying more under the door mat tactics that are being missed by the motorcyclist groups. all this legislation when will it all end .
My 1962 Dominator 88SS has a motif on the front of the headlamp. The plastic centre shows a Lion (rampant), but the aluminium surround has degraded and it is no longer secure.
