I have just had the pleasure of some most excellent service from the NOC Spares scheme. A set of 650 Dominator exhaust valves plus a cylinder head gasket delivered within a couple of days at half the price quoted by A/N for the same spares.

My workshop manual, which I bought recently , says that I should torque the nuts that screw into the 3 little locating studs that hold the stator surround of the alternator to 15 ft lbs.
Now my bike has a Quaife 5 speed, but it is a stiff old thing, sure itll change but selecting neutral is hit and miss and its not a smooth change to any gear, suggestions on getting it back to factory standards, although that might have to be the

What is the concensus on the real need for this 'upgrade' for 68-74 Commandos?
I understand why it's better but is it really necessary with the sort of relatively gentle use that my bike is likely to get?
Has anyone here used the rubber faced cam chain tensioner in an Atlas? The part number for the rubber faced cam chain tensioner is 06.7574. Could this be an updated version and is better to use than the original which is steel?

I am in the process of replacing the front fork seals on my 1971 bike, however I have come up against a problem.
Last weekend I made a 1300 km roundtrip together with a friend to buy two Norton Jubillees near Cologne, Germany. One is a 1959 Jubilee Deluxe, the other one a later (1964?) Standard.
Now up to 500 miles on my 1964 Navigator since its rebuild and the bike is running very well and is a pleasure to ride, but I have a question when starting the bike from cold I have to flood the carb excessively (with the choke fully on) to get it
