16H Registration

Forums

Hi ,

I am hoping someone can give me some advice and maybe  point me in the right direction, I bought this 16h in a local auction and want to get it registered , there was no tax book with it but a folder of papers, mainly receipts for work/parts and this document from the vintage club, I live in N Ireland and would like to keep the no if possible.

Thanks in advance

The NI registration doesn't seem to be linked to DVLA so that may be a complicating factor if there is no supporting documentation.

The VMCC though have badly cocked up with their 2014 dating letter as your bike has a 1936 pattern engine. It's probably all ex-WD and the engine is likely to be an in-service replacement for W35390 with the 'W' stamp omitted. 1950 engines were of the 'chimney pot' type which this one clearly isn't.

Your next step needs to be to have a chat with the Club records officer.

Hi Richard

Thanks for taking the time to replay , very help full .I will definitely try and contact the records officer to see how i can take this forward, i assume the club is able to help with  the correct documentation for getting this bike authenticated ?

Hi Robert,

I thought that all WD 16Hs used the 1936 type engine because when the ministry put big orders in in 1939, they didn't want two different engines in the field, so Nortons supplied to the same spec as previous orders.

I think that SZ is a County Down series from the mid 1950s which could be right for a war surplus machine.

The NI registrations used to be done from an office in Coleraine IIRC, I had to contact them once because of a car I bought which had been imported into the Republic, re-registered in NI then brought to the mainland, and which caused problems, but that is another story, Have you contacted them, I don't know if they hold old registration records, but some English/Scottish/Welsh offices turned theirs over to local archives, most destroyed them.

One thing that I noticed is that you have a tax disc holder with a disc in it, is it original to the bike?If so that would be very good supporting evidence for an application if the NI rules are the same as DVLA's.

Good Luck
