Saw an online article explaining why Nortons are not currently for sale in the US ie being non-Euro 5, and only sold in the UK under the Motorcycle Single Vehicle Approval registrations.
Looking at the prices being charged for tyres that very rarely wear out and often are changed thro age , I see that you can get a pair of Servis tyres including tubes and tapes for half the price of the usual offerings .
Santa brought me to be the guardian of this bitza with, based on Norton files, a special scrambler Manx engine .
I'm looking for any information that might help me piece together its history.
Work proceeds on the (early type) gearbox of the Navigator. I've just had a look at the foot change fittings. All is well except for the alignment of the ratchet and pawl. The attached photos show best and worst conditions.
Working on the 63 SS i find the chainguard held on with dubious fixings. The front by a nut welded onto the swinging arm bracket that only secures the nearside most bit of tin , the back flange left flapping . The rearmost fixing screw goes t
I’ve been sitting on my ‘55 Dominator for a few years .. it’s been gathering dust in the back of the shop .. the K2F had lost whatever it is they lose and I sent it to a genius to return its mojo … fitted a new mag chain ..
My 1950 plunger Inter clubman came to me without a tool box and it’s something I’d like to fit for practical reasons.
I am looking for someone to paint my petrol and oil tanks. Silver, black, and red. (Manx) I am in South East Kent.
With Thanks Barry.
About 1000 miles ago I replaced the exhaust valve & guide ( cast iron ) in the 38 ES2.
The other day I decided to remove the head due to low compression .

Can anyone tell me if a 1966 Atlas alternator will fit a 1960 dominator 88
Hi,
Does anyone have a schematic of the 4 terminal master switch (post '72 750) showing the internal terminal connections in each of the 4 key positions ?
Many thanks.
Hi,
I am new to the club and to Norton's
I got myself a lovely 1947 model 18 and a friend of mine is doing some mechanics for me ( until I learn to myself).
Silent bike, holey right,
piston crown, compressions down,
engine needs a strip right down,
timing must have slipped around,
rings in more than one piece,
rings in more than one piece.
I know that the cable ends for magnetic clocks are different to those for chronos , but whats the difference ?.
Just been having a look at the sleeve gear, in good shape but there may be a time it needs replacing due to excess wear. The only serviceable components are the bushes the gear rotates on. Worn gear teeth cannot be "fixed",
Roadholder this month has some excellent stuff.
Thanks to Jim Bush for his carburettor notes, especially the fine details on synchronising.
I'm on the lookout for a tacho drive gearbox for my 1946 Manx 40M. At some stage, the original has ben swapped out and replaced with a more modern unit and is causing interference issues, not to mention the aesthetic issues.
Looking to rebuild a three speed CS gearbox for my 1927 M18. Need a mainshaft with splined clutch centre rather than earlier taper type. Also need a 17T gear as shown in the attached pictures as mine has chipped teeth.
Please note:

Our Swedish friends have made a nice video of the rally last August, here is the link.
I’m still cleaning and prepping my 1957 Norton, it has full width hubs which I’d always assumed were all aluminium but I now realise that the front hub is a bolt together steel drum and aluminium item.
Just found out that the legendary- or rather almost mythical- V8 Norton Nemesis is alive and well. NMM have passed it to 'Enry Cole or rather mechanical genius Allen Millyard to restore and hopefully have a crack at a speed record with it.
Going over the front forks of my recently aquired 650 ,i came across a problem not seen before. A trial fit of axle to forks (without wheel or mudguard ) revealed the axle to not want to go through the offside slider.
Friend of mine sent me the below link, a chap was allowed to produce a short (9 minute) film of his tour of the new Norton factory in Solihull.
Enjoy!

Just started looking at the gearbox in my Navigator, its the early type.
There are some shims in the gearbox, see the first photo.
They were fitted as follows.
1- on mainshaft adjacent to sleeve gear.
Anyone know the size of the roller bearing that supports the sleeve gear bearing in the later type of gearbox (Electra etc)?
Also what is the centre distance between between main and lay shaft in that gearbox?
Thanks,
John
