The magneto chain on my bike is 42 pins long. The book specifies that it should be 44 links long. Assuming that the "link" referred to in the book is equal to the "pin" I'm counting in real life, my chain is two pins too short.
Looking for some advice regarding my commando. I have a 72 J P N replica which i built 20 years ago with original J P N body work i got in the 70s.
Finally putting my gearbox backtogether - new bearings etc.
I have stripped my Commando 2A gearbox this winter to examine it after installing the layshaft roller bearing mod a few (like 20) years ago. All is well. But there is a small crack in the gearbox shell.
Ihave just managed to source a couple of tappet guide blocks for a 1950 es2 engine that has been stalled for a long time at this point.
the kickstart only comes back about half way and then runs out of steam, spring seems weak, and I have to pull it back up the rest of the way
1959 es2 with a laydown gearbox. is it an easy fix or shall I just regard it as a quirk

They sell long con rods and short, light weight pistons which are similar to the items JS Enginering sells.
I'm thinking of using them to help reduce vibation.
I have just acquired the drawings and basic patterns for the Merlin 8 valve commando cylinder head.
Hi Guys - small question, There are three parts, plunger, spring and white plastic insert. There is some discussion on how these are assembled on the net but nothing definitive.

Hi chaps just bought a model 18 1949 in bits and boxes has not been on the road since 1968 just started to renovate and need some parts I need a carb. Amal 76/022. A large Lynette seat.
My bike still has the original Wipac rectifier. I notice that there is a short wire linking the earth point (the central bolt) to the nut at the other end of the bolt. Is this to ensure a good earth by, in effect, doubling up the earth points?
I now have an extremely ancient looking Norton Rigid front fork damper rod and handle, lovely to touch in a tactile way; with a huge circular knob and holes cast in the mould, what where they for?
does anyone know the original tire sizes for the 850 Commando, front and rear? I know they are 19 but the front now is 4.10x19 and the rear is a 4.00x19 both dunlap. thanks
Hi, I have been offer a set of commando connecting rods without the bottom caps. Are the connecting rods and caps machines as a set or can I fit other caps?
I've been looking for this part for quite awhile now and suddenly our spares scheme has a few repro's. I ordered one and found a dummy battery and the required clips from other sources.

Working on finding the true date of manufacture.
Talking today with the storeman of AMC who was there at the time of the transfer of materials from Bracebridge St ,he tells me that 88/99 barrels and conrods did not make their way accross. Either nicked or dumped.
