Navigator rectifier wiring

Forums

My bike still has the original Wipac rectifier. I notice that there is a short wire linking the earth point (the central bolt) to the nut at the other end of the bolt. Is this to ensure a good earth by, in effect, doubling up the earth points? Or is there perhaps some other reason?

Hello Terry,

Is your Navigator a De Luxe.? The De Luxe has the rectifier bolted to the bottom of the under seat tool tray and earths as you say through the central mounting bolt. I believe that originally the same bolt was also used as the earthing point for the battery/wiring loom;which would make sense The battery earth wire is the transluscent wire from the positive terminal.

Does your old rectifier still work ? I use a modern electronic rectifier because they are cheap, reliable and easy to obtain so I have altered my earthing points.

Thanks Patrick. It's not a de luxe model, the rectifier is mounted on the vertical panel under the seat. The loom earth comes off the mounting bolt on the rectifier, as you say, but there is also a translucent wire coming off that same mounting point, looping over the top of the panel, and attaching under the mounting nut. Nothing else comes off that end.

I, too, am fitting one of those nifty little solid state rectifiers so my question is academic really - just wondered what purpose that single wire served.
