tappet guide blocks difference ? Es2

Forums

Ihave just managed to source a couple of tappet guide blocks for a 1950 es2 engine that has been stalled for a long time at this point. they are both marked C3 63 and priced at 14 and 6 pence each so old stock but they differ, one on the top has a threaded collar and the other is as mine were smooth, also the threaded one has a top flange with no undercut underneath it. the ones I took from my crankcases had a stepped collar underneath the top flange if that makes sense but this did not recess into the crankcase top aluminium. I was also recommended by the old chap that its worth taking the flat out of them so the tappets could rotate,so as to even the wear rate on the foot. not sure if this is recommended but will probably run as standardjust wondering before I heat thecases and fit them , thanks in anticipation Arthur.

Thanks Roger, yes I have had a better study after your message and though the inner and outer dimensions are the same there is no taper internally at the top [the threaded end] so itwould need machining to match the other one that is similar to my originals. I presume they were incorrectly marked up at some time, thanks for your input , I will put the project back on the shelf for a while. Arthur.
