Hello,
I am refurbishing a Norton motorcycle and need to establish the year of manufacture.
I have located the numbers for both the frame and the engine.
The number 122 indicate a model 88.

I assume this is an early Featherbed item but I've never seen one with this oval cross-section. (More stuff gravitating to my basement in spite of resistance).
I rarely post negative comments about my bike or the factory. However I had been experiencing a niggling fault with the bike cutting out. There was no pattern to it doing so which was even more confusing.
Looking for some up to date info on 12 volt conversion for my Jubilee. Whats the best units for these bikes.ThanksJohn
It's not really a distributor as it's a single and has no HT wire coming out of it.
Anyway, the one in the bike I have bought has a shaft which has quite a lot of sideways slop in the case.
With just 24 hours to go before I headed off to the Begonia, it began to rain. Slightly thwarting the plan to go and fill up my 650 with fuel before the usual crack of dawn departure.
Hi Guys,
I got my factory records check back and it appears my frame and engine are matching from factory which is great!
It also said it came with extras: Dyno, Footchange, Horn and speedo.
I have 25 mags that were owned by my mate Dave Evans if anybody wants them. I am in Reading Berkshire. Thames Valley branch.
The question is does my 1964 Jubilee have a crankcase breather?
I see nothing on the crankcase behind the cylinders and below the carb that looks like a breather connection.
Bit of a cock up today, adding oil to the tank in my cramped garage & ended up with a spillage on the rear tyre, oil on about1/3 of tyre, mainly on the edges. I Wiped it down and cleaned tyre with meths (only solvent I could lay my hands on).
To continue the daft questions season: I have two more regarding the rocker lubrication system. I have tried the search facility and Haynes manual but I am unable to establish the connection point for the rocker oil feed.
Hi, I am new here and have recently acquired a 65 Electra which has been restored but never really run so I am in the process of commissioning it. It has a few issues most of which I am happily working my way through.
I am nearing the end of a multi-year resto on my '71 Commando. Way back when, I purchased a new Boyer Mark 3 ignition system, thinking that I would be installing it soon. Well, life got in the way and I am just now at a point of using it.
I have only recently disassembled my 1972 manufacture Combat Roadster Chassis . I noticed that the front Isolastic tube within the rubbers is not concentric - it is off center favoring the top .
Just taken the ES2 out for its first road test - about 4 miles on local roads. I was very pleasantly surprised. Loads of power, no coughing or spluttering, slick gear change, rock-steady handling.
A couple of us are riding up to the Reivers Rally from Cornwall & West Devon next week, the route being mainly M5 & M6, with maybe a run over Shap Fell on the A6, then eventually A7 to Melrose.
I have an RST Classic TT waxed jacket, I have worn it once and it rained. Might as well have been in a tee shirt for the waterproofing it provided. I have given it a coat of Barbour wax but not tested yet.
I've just been looking at the location for next years INR. Are they expecting us to reenact the Commando MIRA frame breakage tests of the late 1960s ?
Clutch started to slip badly when kicking over so I took a look today.

I've read all the responses to my original question on this issue - thanks to everyone. However, my problems continue ...............

I find to my dismay that my (super-reliable until now) 16H inlet tappet can be rocked sideways a lot more than I expected. Looks like tappet guide?
I managed to get my 500 mile service done at the factory last Wednesday. I had the short pipes put on, with associated map, but forgot to ask for the decat - maybe on the next service?
