56 Dommie rocker oil feed. I ha

Forums

To continue the daft questions season: I have two more regarding the rocker lubrication system. I have tried the search facility and Haynes manual but I am unable to establish the connection point for the rocker oil feed. I have seen pointers towards the blanking plug near the pressure relief valve on the timing chest cover and the return line to the oil tank. There is no way that my feed pipe will stretch to the former and I am unable to find any details of connecting a banjo fitting to the oil tank. Does anyone have a picture or a sketch of the oil tank connection? Again,on the lubrication front, where my oil junction block attaches to the timing chest I have a stud and I need the sleeve nut to secure the block. The guys at Norvil tell me that it should be secured with a bolt but my parts list specifies the nut D12/996. Any ideas for a supplier? Thanks in advance. Ron.

Take a look at the oil tank where the return line enters the tank. The rocker oil feed is a bleed off the return feed at this point. To access the pipe, drain the oil tank, remove the return oil pipe, and then remove the pipe union - you then have access to the rocker oil feed pipe. The pipe rises vertically from the oil tank fitting, then goes forward to the cylinder head, where the pipe splits into two, feeding into a small gallery in the cylinder head..

If your bike was post '64, there would be a pressure feed from the timing cover. It's below the pressure-relief valve. (On the very first Dominators, this was for a feed to an oil pressure gauge mounted in the petrol tank.). It is not a simple job to convert to later spec, because you need 6-start pump gears, the pipe fittings, and plain rockers without the oil-feed scroll as on the earlier machines

Regarding the oil pipe fitting to the crank case. Yes, your engine should have a stud, and a special nut to hold the oil pipes onto the cases.. Try NorVil aka Fair Spares

Thanks Paul, what would I do without you. My engine arrived with the oill feed pipe attached but there was no pipework or fittings with the oil tank. I have recently acquired a junction block and now I need the associated parts. Hence my questions. Thanks again Ron
