Chain

Forums

Hello All,

I decided to have a break from ill fitting exhausts etcf and fit the chain. I bought a 20 tooth front sprocket and a 52 tooth rear (I have kept all the bills but dare not add them up). I bought a 120 pitch regina chain for a Navigator/Electra--by the looks of things the only other ones on the spares page was a 121 pitch and a 125 pitch cheaper one. What could possibly go wrong?

Typically my 120 can just be squeezed on with a pair of pliers but is bar tight. My usual trick is to deepen the slots a tiny bit (I hate having to adjust up new chains) but I can see that I would need to take some off the chain adjuster bolt tips. has anyone been here already?

I can see an engine mounting bolt that needs shortening as well

Cheers

Buy a half link, that should give you the clearance! The Chain Man has such things!

Hello Dan--I could but that would use a good part of my adjustment up--I'll have a look tomorrow.

Cheers

Hi John,

Why did you go for a 20 tooth sprocket? There is nothing wrong with doing that but I expected you would prefer the standard 19 tooth to get better acceleration in London traffic or do you intend to go touring? Maybe London traffic is moving faster than it used to back in the sixties.

Hello Patrick,

I live 60 miles from London on a tidal island called Mersea in Essex. I seldom go to London (at all) but spent a year in Chislehurst/New Eltham when at university in the 90s--I cannot comment for the 60s but the traffic was capable of of anything then! I went (as a passenger in a car) to Richard hacker M/cycles--it was not far away but it took hours.
