Can the Boyer Mark 3 be improved or upgraded?

Forums

I am nearing the end of a multi-year resto on my '71 Commando. Way back when, I purchased a new Boyer Mark 3 ignition system, thinking that I would be installing it soon. Well, life got in the way and I am just now at a point of using it. Meanwhile, I have been reading horror stories of broken wires and kickbacks due to low voltage conditions.

Can this system be improved or upgraded, or should I toss it? Thanks!

Hi

I am in the process of re wiring my MK3 Commando , three years ago i suffered a severe kickback with the Boyer Mark 3 and ended up with a dislocated right foot and screws to put it back together. I later found out a low voltage battery was the cause. Toss it away and fit a more up to date one.

Hope this helps

You need a Boyer B MKIV which is supposed to reduce/remove the kick back. The Pick up did suffer from broken copper wires inside the PVC, careful resetting of the PU wires could be in order. You could fit a Pazon, they are better made but cost more. You could fit a Lucas RITA New Old Stock many years old, not as old as the bike though. Sold and guaranteed by me.
