my 750 commando is stripped down at the moment it has a ported big valve head and a standard camshaft at the moment but i have in my spares a good 4s cam with a vernier sprocket that i am thinking about fitting,or should i stick with the std one??
Clutch is now out and upon inspecting the plates they look fine except for the tags (can't think of the proper name) that fit in the slots.

Latest issue of one of the classic bike mags has a part article about restoring a Model 18. The article concludes with a picture of a crack in one flywheel casting - with a remark that this is a common defect.

Apart from the posting errors the only things I have found slightly frustrating are:-
I have just stripped and inspected the oil pump on my 71 and noticed that the end of the 4 slotted screws that hold the pump together were centre punched on end face of the thread end.

I know the Commando swinging arm should be lubricated using 140 grade oil but I recently learnt of an owner using grease; used because oil would leak out. Has anyone got any tips on this topic please?

I have only done 3000 miles on my Commando since a complete rebuild, on pressing the tickler on the RH carb to flood the float bowl prior to starting, petrol immediately started pouring out of the tickler.

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 750 head and replacing the thackery washers with solid spacers, problem is I can find no definitivemeasurement for the end float between rocker and spacer.

Right then, so how do I get the clutch body off?
Clutch spring screws removed, outer plate and thrust pin, retaining nut off but she doesn't want to shift.
Is it possible to reverse the gear selection on a right foot shift Commando to 1st down and the rest up, as you can on certain Triumphs by reversing the gearbox camplate.
Finally, I have tracked down the knocking !!!
And this has been confirmed by two wiser and far moreexperienced friends.
Does anyone know the reach of this 18mm spark plug, its temperature and what equivalents might exist from other manufacturers?

I have a Dominator 650ss, it has had a lot of work done to it and is beautiful to look at and is in the cafe racer guise but has retained the original 650ss engine and frame which match.
1st question. On Atlas damper units and on some Commando dampers there are four holes to allow the oil to flow through. On later Commando dampers there are only two holes and slightly higher up(on the tapered portion).
Hi All, I have just completed the assembly of Rubik's oil tank on my 71. On the final tweaks, checking the tightness of the oil feed banjo, I managed, without too much effort, to shear the new(off the noc shop)top rear mounting rubber.
Hello all. The rebuild of my 75 registered mk2A roadster (a showroom leftover) is allmost at the point of refitting the primary drive and i notice the gearbox final drive sprocket has 20 teeth which i beleave should be 21.

I am replacing the GRP "Manx" style tank on my 1959 Dommi with a secondhand Norton steel tank but it has no obvious fixings. It seems I'll have to use the strap system from the big Manx one, but surely that is not right? Any advice?
