1949 ES2 Clutch plates?

Forums

Clutch is now out and upon inspecting the plates they look fine except for the tags (can't think of the proper name) that fit in the slots.

The slots are parallel, despite the taper in the photo - that's down to the lens, but each plate shows wear and they are burred as well.

I assume they are knackered and need replacing ... is that correct.

Comments please

That depends on what you are trying to do. If this is a bike which will be ridden a little, mostly short distances and shows, then filing the burrs off the plates will suffice. if you are planning a European tour, then new clutch plates would be in order.

That was quick :)

The bike is my prefered set of wheels for everyday use and does go an extended tour each year, 1000 miles in Eire this summer and off to France next year, so it does sound like they need sorting while all the parts on the the workbench.

So heh hoh, more money!

I believe thet the word you were looking for is "tang" and I think that with the miles you do on tour a new set would be in order.

Update.

I have just spoken to Les at Norvil and he reckons that they are knackered.

The lugs/tangs/dogs on the friction plate should be 14.2mm wide and mine are:

11.5

11.7

11.4

13.1

I then checked the other plates and the are sloppy as hell too.

Will order new complete set tomorrow :)
