First ride.
Took the bike out for its first ride today after 49 years and 354 days since the con rod came through the crankcase, only about 3/4 of a mile as a trier, but all the waiting was worth it in the end.

I am about to start assembling my Mk3 gearbox. It had to have a brand new shell because the original was cracked in the usual place between the sleeve gear and layshaft bearing housings.
Hi,
As my bike (possibly!) gets closer to getting on the road I am wondering what would be a sensible insurance valuation for a restored Electra?
Does the club help with valuations?
Thanks Andrew

I suppose that I'm feeling a little maudlin this evening. The summer has passed with no proper motorcycle gatherings and this weekend would have been the last big summer party...The Flanders Branch's "Begonia Rally".

Hi Guys, I have a '68 20M which I've owned since 1980 in fact the one that is pictured on the front cover of Mick Duckworth's 2004 book on the Commando. Problem is Ethanol has melted the tank.
Hi all,
On my new restoration (1955 ES2) I have the rocker box and head off for a clean and check.
Not sure if it’s a positive effect of the virus but I must thank our spares volunteers for the great service I have received these last few months.
I met a very interesting character who had a Dominator 99 cafe racer in the 70's and it's still around today apparently.

I have just received an email from Brittany ferries saying that their boat is returning to Plymouth and not Pompey. Grrr.
Does anyone know where we can obtain "Norton News", Norton Service Bulletins or any other form of Technical Bulletins sent out by the factory from the Bracebridge St days to NVT days?
Does anybody know what angle the teeth on the engine/intermediate/cam pinions are cut to? For a Dominator in particular, but I suspect the same for post war Nortons.
Hello I just fitted a new centre stand and had to remove the alternator (marking the connections) and battery, I have magneto ignition. Put it all back together and no lights!
I am gearing up to restore an Electra that has been sat in a garage for 45 years ( don’t ask) and rather than dive headlong into taking it apart, want to plan properly for my winter project.
I am looking for some advice on rear chains and sprockets. I am restoring my 1956 Norton Model 50 with one of Mike Pemberton’s 520 conversions.
Hello again. I'm after a pair of rear panels as pictured,, Someone on a Facebook group said the owner club had some made a while ago but I can't find them in the online shop.
Phil, Didn't know where to post, seem to have lost your contact details, but have had a vision problem for a month, Migraine related I think. So all delayed but hope to finish my contribution, by the end of this week!
Good evening to all
Have started the long road to stripping my 1972 Commando for a very overdue re-build.
I purchased the bike nearly 4 years ago and this is my first 'Classic' and certainly my first attempt at a re-build.
Hi. Has anyone out there fitted a Pazon Surefire Ignition system to a Dommie 99? (Mine’s a 1960).
My ES2 1961 - recently rebuilt - worried me from the start as the wet sumping is extreme, about 1/4 litre per day.
Made a hook from flat plate slipped over spring stud and piece of studding through a plate over top rails and just wound a nut down, stud slipped straight through hole in engine plate simples!
While waiting for a replacement I have found an old 70" cable that appears identical except that the speedo end cable protrusion is about double the recommended 3/8" for an early chrono . Thinking of cutting off the excess with Dremel.
Noticed mine has a very deformed C washer that seems to be jamming the ATD slightly noticed in google search this washer only seems to be fitted to units with the large dished plate on the front.
A while ago I queried the difficulty I had getting the engine over compression prior to starting the bike. Since then I have rebuilt the top end ( a long story) with new liners and bored back to size and new standard pistons etc.
