Clutch impossibly heavy to operate - done everything - what's wrong ?
Bike is 1959 Model 50 - having replaced just about every part the clutch is impossibly heavy to operate. My left forearm is like 'popeye's'.

Looking for my Dad’s old bike, what’s the best way of going about this ?
Hi all.
Looking for info, upon buying my commander I have stripped all the panels off prior to repainting haven’t decide on colour yet.
Hi all, i am doing some fettling on my 500t and have decided to replace the badly homemade front mudguard stay. I have tried to look at some photos online but it is more difficult that it sounds to try and establish which is the correct type.
Can anyone help a new Norton owner with information on how to assemble an Electra frame.
Hi all, 750, hi comp head. Currently has Champion N7YC. What's the spark plug of your choice? Laid up in hospital so look out for more questions!
Thanks.
Hi all, I need to replace the kickstart and gear lever shaft oil seals on my Electra. I’ve bought the square section ones, I’m thinking to fit them the bushes will have to be removed.
My understanding is that the lightweights had a 3 start worm to drive the oil pump, later on a 6 start worm was used. Is that correct? Presumably done to increase the oil flow through the engine.
Lucas Rita amplifier Part No. 48022 was specified for the Norton Commando and that is what I fitted to my first Mk3 in 1980 (strobed for me by Mistral Engineering).
I have just acquired a 1969 750 that I think has had a front end bash at some point in its past life. It came with a disc front end in the pile of bits. Presumably, the drum front end was scrap, but the frame needs attention.
CLASSIC TT CANCELLED
Hi All,
As secretary of Thames Valley branch I sent out the email below to all in my branch, it was suggested that it may be worth wider publicity, so here goes:-
I have two front mudguard stays (see attached pictures); the grey painted one is from my current 1972 Fastback, while the rusty chrome one was removed, 40+ years ago, from the 1971 Fastback that I owned back then.
I would like to ask how the tank spacers was attached by the factory: https://www.rgmnorton.co.uk/buy/featherbed-petrol-tank-frame-u-section-rubber_3062.htm
Mine are attached by adhesive tape and it doesn´t look satisfactory.
My Lucas horn has been silent for years, back then I fitted a small disc horn under the seat instead.
I heard recently that Peter had passed away, surprised there is no official announcement on the website? Peter was a great Chairman and ambassador for the club. He was at our inaugural meeting of the Tay Valley Branch.
Hi I have read the posts and was wondering why my atlas has an alloy head gasket.
Under 'Singles' is a question about where to find out more. I realise I have rather too many books. I wonder what I am missing out on?
Hi everyone hope we are all keeping well during these crazy times :) I've been doing some really hard thinking over the past few months and I've decided to let my remaining Japanese classics go while I'm sorting the sale of those out I'm starting
Hi, I need to replace my regulator on my 1936 16H. There are replacement Lucas type regulators online for around the £50 mark, however there is a replacement regulator within the NOC spares that’s only circa £20.
Hi all. Both headraces in the frame of my es2 plunger have no grease holes so I want to replace them. I’ve tried drifting them as hard as I dare and they aren’t budging. I don’t want to use heat and ruin the paint.
I've recently bought a 1973 Commando 750 John Player Norton replica. Engine/frame no. 210678. This was originally an ex Police Interpol. Anyone know if this is Combat engine? Has the tower breather rear lh crankcase.
What a great effort. Many thanks for the new resource.
I'm a little puzzled as to what happened to 1937 though...just the first page ?
Hi all,
Has anyone had any experience of any good classic motorcycle transportation companies as i have a finished project that needs delivering with care.
Kind regards,
Ian
I was wondering if any one has tried blocking off the oil gallery to the back of the barrel on an ES2 ?
Mine has that problem where it fouls plugs and the only solution is to fit a new plug.
Re. 1966 Altas. Does anybody know the maximum endfloat of the gearbox mainshaft measured where the cluch centre hub attaches, there is no movement in the sleeve gear.
The forum is full of articles suggesting that the clutch stack height is critical to both slip and lever weight. Articles refer you to the WS manual.
I have a question about the oil in my Norton model 7. Just purchased from Belgium and shipped to the N.W. USA. I have come up zero trying to find a manual so I can get the bike ready to ride ! What is the correct level in the tank ?
Are the front and rear hubs for a 1937 16H Interchangeable? Should the Bearing Lock Rings be the same thread/size please?
Rebuilding my 1972 Commando combat. Removed the carbs for strip down and clean etc. The slides in both carbs were seized and took a fair amount of effort to get out of the body. what is the best (and safest) way to free up the movement?
