Electra Rider's Manual?

Forums

Hello all,

Has anyone found online, or perhaps have, a rider's (owner's) manual for an Electra?  I have a '65 that I'm getting back into running condition and would like to have a manual for it as well.  I've ordered the shop/parts manual.  Thanks in advance!

Navigator to Jubilee and back

Forums

To anyone considering this there are a few hurdles to overcome.

Jubilee has a shorter stroke so:

Crankshaft has a shorter throw.

Cylinders are shorter.

Conrod is shorter so that one full fin is difference in cylinder heights.

The headsteady mount is lower, different, and attached to a different front frame member.

The 12 cylinder studs are shorter.

The pushrods are shorter.

The exhaust outlets are lower so often Navigator exhaust pipes don't easily fit Jubilee and vice versa.

Navigator Carburettor Alternatives

Forums

I have a Navigator which, at some point in its past, has been converted to 250cc.  Over the coming months I'll be returning it to 350cc and will need to replace the existing carb, which is correct for a Jubilee (Amal 375/43) but not for a Navigator (should be 375/48).

A new Amal from Burlen is a whopping £275, ouch!  Aside from second hand units and refurbs are there any new carbs that would suit?  Has anyone out there had success with an alternative to the 375/48?

7" Headlamp for Navigator

Forums

I'm looking at the picture of Martin Woltman's excellent Navigator Cafe Racer and it look like he's fitted a 7" headlamp, but retained the original Roadholder brakets.  I'd like to do something similar, is that an easy thing to fit I wonder?  The original headlamp on mine is 6" so can anyone advise how I get the extra space between the brackets?

Jubilee Fork Bushes

Forums

Anyone had any experience replacing Jubilee fork bushes?

Powder coater didn’t protect lower fork legs and trashed the bushes.

Managed to get some replacements just wondering whether it would be better to try to braze them on as per original spec, or I’ve heard of people using Loctite603/638 to secure them.

Read a couple of horror stories about trashed bushes trying to braze them.

All suggestions gratefully received!

Smokey Navigator

Forums

Hi there!  I'm a new member and would appreciate some advice on an issue with my recently acquired '61 Navigator.  I've noticed that the left exhaust is smoking a bit and leaving a dark residue, compared to the much clearer output from the right side.  I'm not an experienced bike mechanic by any means, but wonder if oil could be getting into the cylinder either past the piston rings or inlet valves.

Can anyone suggest a logical process of elimination that would help me identify the cause?  Thanks!
