Hi everyone,
I'm Vito from Italy and I'm restoring a '48 ES2. It is red and silver and I don't know if it's the original paint scheme 'cause I've never seen another one like that. The petrol tank is rotten at the bottom and it would be much cheaper to buy a new reproduction already chromed and painted (I like very much the chrome and silver pattern) than repairing mine, but if it turns out that my bike's paintjob is original (and maybe rare) I think it would be more correct to keep it as it is. So, does somebody know if any plunger ES2 left the factory in red?

I had a green 250 2c just like that one.
A red tank would be unusual for that period and the panelling doesn't follow Norton practice. A factory records check from the club would normally indicate if it was supplied with a special finish.
Don't throw away the old fuel tank though - someone will be able to repair it !

Ah a Paul Weller look alike! The italians made some lovely bikes in the 70's. Sorry for hijacking your thread Vito, but that's what comes of posting a pic that has other interesting bits in the corners!

Hi Vito, Your 1948 ES2 should have a chrome tank with silver panels lined with black and red pin stripes. Here's a picture of my 49 ES2. My tank should be chromed and not silver.

I have the correct pillion seat if you are interested. Good springs but the covering has gone crispy. I will never use it.

Not sure about the originality of the colour but it looks good, and I'm liking the Benelli in the corner!
