Slimline frame and longer shocks

Forums

As I am 6' 5" tall seat height is quite important. The problem I have is raising up the rear end of a slimline featherbed by fitting longer shock absorbers. However this has resulted in the rear chain fouling the top of the swinging arm. Therefore the next solution appears to be to move the swinging arm down slightly by approx 1".

The swinging arm is a box section Dresda unit.Has anyone done this before?? Will it affect handling and should be discouraged??

Grateful any comments or ideas on this matter

I don't see how raising the suspension will help you since the relationship between seat and footpegs remains the same since pegs are fitted to frame not to swing arm.It seems to be a lot of effort just so you can straighten your legs a bit more when you have your feet on the ground - bike standing still. You could raise the seat itself. Not so tidy perhaps but it should work.

Hi David

Thanks for your comments,I agree with your idea a lot of work to straighten ones legs. The seat height as you suggest is an easier option. This 1965 slimline atlas frame has a tendancy to look low at the rear end because of the 18" wheel at the back and 19" at the front. This bike is modified and was used for hillclimbing so I guess the rearsets position could also be lowered somewhat to accommadate someone tall like me.

Try sitting on piece of 1" foam and see if that makes a difference. I'm with you on this I'm 6'4" and make most bikes look like pit bikes!
