navigator petrol tank fixings

Forums

It's a long embarrassing story which involves me spending a lot of time fixing and preping a tank which I finally discovered to not be from a Navigator.

Curses

On finally realising my mistake and getting a correct tank from the club I realised that the front support from the headstock has been broken off of my bike and I will have to fabricate a new one.

Could anyone provide me with a photograph or picture of how to should be, including if possible any dimensions so I can make one.

thanks

Sholto

Note to self. Dry assemble bike before prepping.

Hello Sholto,

It's a black dark miserable wet day here so very difficult to take any decent pictures. Here's a picture of the tank front mount on my spare Jubilee frame. It's the same as the Navigator. I have never seen or heard of one of these being broken off.

Thanks for the photos.

is it a screw in plug type thing?

Also is it round and straight, or tapered or another shape?

Could you please give me an idea of the diameter and length.

Finally, to be a bit cheeky could you please take a photograph directly side on (if you get my drift).

Many thanks

Hi Sholto,

Here are a couple more photos- not brilliant photography but should do the job. It's a bit awkward to explain but here goes;

Length of the spigot is just about exactly 30mm including the round flange bit next to the frame. It is slightly tapered going from 19.75mm to 18.75mm. It also has two 'blobs' on the tank end. These blobs are intended to locate the rubber which just pushes on. The NOCshop do a rubber for this which in my opinion is useless as it's just a bit of rubber hose cut down. In my experience it doesn't fit properly into the tank mounting and out of choice I would just wind some insulating tape around the spigot.

I don't know if the spigot is threaded as I have never tried to remove one and this one has been powdercoated in position.

It only has to carry the weight of the fuel tank.

That great thanks.

Most helpful.

And no. I cannot understand how it could have broken off.......

Sholto
