16H died

Forums

Yesterday was a hot and sunny day, so I decided to take out my recently aquired Norton for a trip. I have had some problems starting it warm, so I thought I'd try to sort it out. After some ten miles it died going downhill. No signs of life. When I got too warm and tired of kicking the machine, I phoned my son. We took it home on a trailer. Reading about all problems that an old Norton can have, I was prepared to clean and service the fuel system and rewinding the magneto. Today I started to investigate. First I loosened the fuel line to check if the fuel taps worked. Nothing happened. Opened the tank cap. You've guessed it. Empty.

One of the few good things about getting old is that I have more and more easy to solve problems just like this!.

Hello there,

A very similar thing happened to me on Saturday. I was selling my H*nda and the purchaser asked for a test ride. The H*nda fired up immediately on choke (as one expects of a H) and was left to warm up; the purchaser fully kitted now got on the bike, put off the choke and put the H*nda into gear. It immediately stalled and flatly refused to restart.

After a moment of panic we realised it was out of petrol. The lawn mower kindly loaned us some petrol, test ride now satisfactory. and the H*nda has departed to a new life in Dublin,

Patrick

Did you open your left fuel tap after the right hand side of the tank ran dry? The invisible half tank should had had a few miles in it....Anyway - how did you enjoy the 16H, Mikael? Are you close enough to bring it to Brooklands next Sunday? The place will be have five times as many cammy Nortons as side valves!David
