I am restoring my 1972 Commando Interstate & need help with the wiring. I am clueless with electrical items. Is there anybody in my area (Coalville) who would be willing to rewire my bike or suggest someone who could. I am prepared to pay for any help. Thank you.

I designed and made a wiring…
I designed and made a wiring loom for my MK1 850. It has 4 fuses and works really well. I have a diagram that you could follow without too much trouble, it's very clearly drawn.
Incidentally I only use Japanese Bullets for wiring, they snap together much better than the Lucar jobs and give a better connection.

3.9 bullets
Yes the 3.9 Jap bullets is a way forward as the original on the Commando 4.7mm Lucas/Rist F crimp bullet is no longer available. The 4.7mm is available in Brass to solder or use a very expensive crimp tool. BUT the 3.9 bullet does not use the SNAP system. So every time you fit a 3.9 bullet you will need to fit a 3.9 socket. The system can be made to work but any/all of the original 4.7 and Snap connector system is redundant. Your choice. I can advise further if you get in contact.
Oh by the way 4 fuses might be too many, but 2 fuses is a good idea-an ignition fuse and a lighting fuse, so if the lights fail (fuse blows) then you still have forward motion!

Fuse 1- rear light and horn…
Fuse 1- rear light and horn. If the horn is inoperative you know that your fuse for the rear light has blown.
Fuse 2 Electronic Ignition.
Fuse 3 Lighting and indicators
Fuse 4 Battery Just as you find on most motorcycles.
Fuses are the mini automotive blade fuse type.

Careful....
This is a reasonable thought out 'fuse' scenario, but there is a small issue, IF the rear light failing took out the rear light fuse AND the battery fuse you would still lose ignition.
While on about fuses-be careful-a common mistake by some is to have a single fuse (in battery cct) then to want some extra electricity and they connect straight to the battery, this can then effectively bypass the main fuse-dangerous. IF you stick to the principle of 'ONE wire on each battery terminal' you should avoid this issue.(Electric start with its high current cables is a special issue-but be careful!)

I can assure you that I already included that eventuality at the design stage.
I have nothing further to add, the loom fitted to the Commando has worked for 3 years without issue.
It's up to an individual to make an informed choice. I don't wish to come across as a know all, every day is a school day.

When you find your helping hand, tell them I can supply a wiring kit. Standard looms MIGHT be adequate, but if any electrical part is moved or if there is significant alterations to charging, or ignition then a rewiring kit does the job better than trying to alter a standard loom
