Hi all,
Can someone remind me please how to get the bottom retaining bolt tight (oil damper tube bolt) in the fork slider?
The RH one responded well to a rattle gun but the LH leg refuses to tighten, just spinning the inner damping rod and spring.
Bike is a '72 Roadster.
Thanks - Paul.

Bob was faster than me responding.
To add to the article mentioned. Check that the threads in the bolt and damper tube are fine. The bolt should go nice in the damper. Obviously it should be less friction between bolt and damper than it is between damper and slider. The steel washer is also part of the equation. I think that light oil on the bolt AND on the steel washer gives it a better chance.

Squash a pipe
Having just done my own I had to take a short length of steel pipe, gently compress one end in a vice so that it just fits over the flats on the top of the damper, Slide this end over the flats and secure other end in a vice and tighten up the bolt. Simples. Paul.

Sneak up on it and catch it unawares?!!. Undo the top nut and push the leg up ,find some way of gripping the rod?.
