1937 16H Valve Timing

Forums

Hi,

How should I set up the valve timing for my 37 16H please? There are no stamps on the wheels but a previous owner has painted some red marks on, but I'm not sure of their relevance.

Any suggestions would be very welcome thanks,

Gary.

I have a 16H manual. I'll gladly email you the relevant part. You need a timing disc or a depth gauge, vernier or steel rule to measure the piston position in the bore. Rock back from TDC and gently forward to correct position which is 27 to 30 degrees (5/16") before TDC for the inlet opening and the same figure after TDC for the exhaust closing.

I had the same problem with my pre-war Model 50. Some are marked, some aren't.

I'd start with painted settings but note the timing pinion has more the one keyway to try. When you're happy centre pop marks on th epinion and cam wheels for future reference.
