Commando

I have just noticed that a previous owner had upgraded my ‘72 Roadster to adjustable isolastic mounts and that the rear adjuster has been installed on the wrong side (so that both front and rear adjusters are on the engine timing case side of the bike).  Can anyone please tell me whether or not this is likely to be a problem or whether I should go to the effort of swapping the rear mount around?

Been working with Adam at Classic Transfers (service@classictransfers.co.uk) in UK and they now have side cover decals that say specifically 750 Combat.

Here's a puzzle. With the bike on the work bench, engine not running, I can select from 1st gear to 3rd up and down as I wish with out a problem but go from 3rd to 4th and it gets stuck in 4th. Remove the outer cover and I can lever the quadrant to change down to 1st. If I set the ratchet spring I can then select from 1st to 4th to 1st to 4th several times until it gets stuck in 4th. The gearbox works fine on the road - no problems. I've tried fitting a new ratchet spring from Andover but with the same result. Any ideas appreciated.

Anyone know what the O-ring on the camplate spindle does?

There isn't one in my box, if fact I don't remember ever seeing one. Shifts fine but I noticed it while looking up some oil seals and wondered.

Hi all, I have a rim-mounted disc on a Foale centre hub front end ( it is a Norton Commando engined bike!)

   The disc now needs replacing. It is 425 mm diameter including the 9 mounting tabs, and 292mm diamete hole in the middle. It is only 3.2 mm thick. The old one is an unknown stainless material.

I have tried many aftermarket disc makers, and have yet to find a definite solution. One company can cut the disc, but their oven is too small to do the heat treatment, so one solution is to find  separate heat treatment and possible subsequent final grinding companies.

I've had my 72 Roadster back together for a couple of weeks and am getting the testing miles in when weather allows. My bike came with a set of Norvil pipes and peashooters. I know they are not quiet but I do find the volume a bit tiring when riding longer distances. 

I would like to know if the peashooters that Andover Norton sell are any quieter please? They advertise that theirs have 'noise deadening'-does it work do you know?

I bought my 2A Commando about 40 years ago and at some point I checked the Isolastic tolerances. That was at least 25 years ago so I thought I would check them again - whether they needed it or not. Not surprising they were as slack as a welly top - so I set out to rectify the situation, which is where my problems began.
