Alternative ignition switch position

Forums

I've just replaced the air filter on my mk1 850 with a K&N filter so I've had to relocate the ignition switch that was attached to the old air filter back plate.  Has anyone made a new bracket or found a good place to relocate the ignition switch to?  I have tie wrapped it the frame for now but I'm sure there is a better solution.  Any ideas?

I made up an aluminium bracket that is attached using the two screw holes at the bottom of the battery tray where the inner part of the standard air filter would be attached. As you can see I have also attached my Boyer Power box on the same bracket. I just had to make sure there was enough room behind the bracket to accommodate the back of the ignition switch where all the wires are attached. Aluminium is easy to file down and drill holes in.

Thanks Donald, that looks a really neat job.  A bracket attached by those two screws is a good idea.  It could provide a bit of weather protection for the battery too, which is something I was worried about since taking off the big back plate.

You could relocate the ignition switch to the altogether more convenient position between the speedo and tacho. Either get hold of the Mk3 components or make a plate to go between the fork top bolts. Extend the wiring by running new cable from the old switch location, leaving the old connectors in place should you decide to go back to standard. Alan Osborn will sell you the correct colour and size of wire.

Thanks Stan, thats a good idea too.  I couldn't see how the Mk3 console would attach to the yoke but it is all in this thread...https://www.nortonownersclub.org/forum/mk-iii-ignition-warning-light-console.

It seems there is nothing someone in NOC hasn't already tried at least once :)
